Luxury goods is a huge potential market for China. The richer Chinese get, the more they will buy European luxury goods. So, heavy tariffs on these can help develop these inside China or even develop its competitors in Japan and Korea, which in turn will out compete them in Europe. Seems like a good way to attack Europe.

We already have heavy tariffs on these. They should just be banned.

But considering china's extremely weak minded nature when it comes to fighting a trade war (they did bend the knee and did a deal with trump, also did not retaliate enough against US), I expect them to do a little bit and then give up. China also gave up on its trade war on Australia, which is still heavily anti-China and still member of quad. It still bans Huawei. Nothing Australia has done that repealed their anti-China moves but China repealed their bans and tariffs.

Actually, China won the trade war, not through being a bigger screaming dickhead but through tact. It's the only country that could do this against America. China has fought this way for decades, stepping back and forth as it sees fit rather than going full force forward and staying lodged when it hits a wall. Nationalists may not always have their anger satisfied (and I may be one) but we recognize the results of China's growth and development, its unique ability to achieve this over Western enmity, and its current position as the only country in the world that can challenge America and its Western global order.

This mentality of not being able to see past an immediate provocation is exactly why the US and Europe are declining.
Thinking like this will just get you baited into taking stupid trades, starting unprofitable, unnecessary fights, and ending up poorer as a result. Lithuania is a clear example.

Edit: To add to this, on an individual level this type of thinking is endemic to people of lower intelligence and self control. It's why demographically, the types most likely to engage in violent, reckless behaviour are also poorer (no self control, no financial planning, reacts to others and the need to show 'clout'), more likely to be profiled by police (tendency towards reacting without thought to provocations, resulting in violence, tendency to react towards other stimuli, resulting in crime / theft / assault) and are generally unsuccessful in life.

Extrapolating the average common individual behaviours to a society wide level also matches those nations' overall competitiveness... which is why we're seeing the changes taking place today.

But what China did to Australia was extremely weak. They had legitimate reason to be angry at Australia. Australia is NOT the US. Its not a massive 25 trillion market for Chinese goods. Its China that is a huge market for Australian products. And look how Australia is even more anti-China than US at the moment. What China should have done is a Iran style comprehensive sanctions on Australia. A Cuba style Trade embargo. Instead what they did was they did impose some trade restrictions, Australia kept responding by making even more anti-China moves, finally a change of Govt in Aus, they changed some anti-China language but did not change any of the anti-China moves. But China still gets happy and appeases australia by removing all trade barriers.

Pretty much all China watchers called China's actions on Australia very weak. All anti-China people laughed at China's weakness.

China needs to stop appeasing its enemies. Australia is essentially using China's wealth to develop a military to attack China in the future.

A lot of China's moves are not noticed immediately but when they are it's too late. Thats how you outplay your opponent in chess. You don't use generic lines they are easily prepared for. They want to bait China so obviously.

I heard the same thing when China let those HK guys run around and they were called weak. Now they are having easy pickings and Anglos can only seethe as they are powerless to do anything.

China is their biggest trading partner by far, a trade war against Australia is not in their interest. also, Australian military is weak, and they just randomly waste money on useless things.

China needs a “bad cop” nation which can do its dirty work, and this has varied between North Korea or Russia depending on which enemy it needs to deal with. I would prefer Vietnam take this role in asean against Filipinos but views are at times just as bad as Filipinos.

Any Asian nation that fights against the rise of China is tacitly accepting and encouraging this sort of treatment of Asian people around the world. I do hope that not all Filipinos for instance are La Malinches in mind, body and spirit.

China needs a “bad cop” nation which can do its dirty work, and this has varied between North Korea or Russia depending on which enemy it needs to deal with. I would prefer Vietnam take this role in asean against Filipinos but views are at times just as bad as Filipinos.

As a corollary, why do some westerners go out of their way to hurt, belittle or trash any Chinese person, even a random person on the street? Why does a white person fly to Asia and feel compelled to order asians around in Asia? Even from pissant non Anglo nations like Sweden, Netherlands and Spain?

Because they feel that chinas rise means that they lose white privilege, and for that vast majority of western caucasoids who are losers and going nowhere in life eg MileI supporters, they feel they need to restore that white supremacy despite reality proving otherwise.

A lot of the anti war voices against the Ukraine war like Tucker Carlson and Mearsheimer would actually support a war against China because they feel that it would maintain white hegemony over the world and they feel that such a war would galvanise the entire western white nations of the world into a single political unit. It’s very puerile and simplistic thinking but those were the voices during and 5roughout Obama, trump and Biden Administrations.

Exactly. Far right is sympathetic to Russia because they're white, that's it. When it comes down to China they are even more rabidly anti-Chinese (and anti-non-white in general) than libs. It is not some Russian "soft power" or genius grand strategy that swayed them and could be replicated, it is just plain tribalism and racism.
