More commonly Han Chinese say they are 炎黄子孙, meaning the descendants of the Yan (Fire) and Huang (Yellow) emperors.
A key event in the 炎黄 origin myth is the 炎黄 tribal alliance led by the Huang emperor defeating the savage tribes led by Chiyou at the in northern China.
Incidentally, the Miao/Hmong (as well as various other ethnic groups in southern China and southeast Asia), claim descent from Chiyou in their origin myths, with the sagacious Chiyou leading them to safety in southern China after their defeat by the savage tribes of the Huang and Yan emperors.
