Today is September 18th, the 92nd anniversary of Japan's invasion of China's Manchuria in 1931.
On 15 Feb 1942, the battle of Singapore ended with British imperialist forces surrendering to Japanese imperialist forces. The Japanese ruled Singapore brutally, as they did everywhere they occupied, until their defeat in 1945.
In today's Singapore, 15 Feb is marked as Total Defense Day. There is a remembrance ceremony at the Civilian War Memorial, which is built atop a burial chamber containing the remains of victims of Japanese atrocities exhumed from mass graves across the island. At 6.20pm, the time of formal British surrender, air raid sirens sound throughout the country.
Never Forget.
