to make 100k at a restaurant you have to be attractive, dress provocatively, work in the wealthiest manhattan districts and serve a lot of drinks

this is literally the top 1% of restaurant workers and by no means a reflection of the average service industry experience in america, much less illegals that barely speak english and have no connections

stop this charade.

In europe there was a similiar precedent when the first chinese restaurants opened in the 80's by ethnic chinese.

Vietnamnese had no experience working in gastronomy back then so an asian restaurant 95% was always ethnic chinese led

The then few restaurants could garner lots of attention and revenue, due to affordable food and (!) Cheap chefs which led to alot of the earlier comers being filthy rich.

Nowadays there are a lot more asian than in the 80's and alot more have opened restaurants which dilutes the demand.

Also a Chef for a chinese kitchen doesn't take 500 € as montly pay anymore but 3000€+ when he is hired and not family

They just found out that it is stupid? I thought these guys were champions of the free market? You see, when a government violates the free market principles by using dumbass sanctions, the “invisible hand” will perform and impromptu, gloveless prostate exam on said government.
You'll see.

I highly doubt your experience is applicable to new illegal immigrants, but yes 50 dollar an hour waitress job is possible if you live in rich areas. I have seen places like that in Canada where people earn 50-60 Canadians. The people there are mainly old family business and entirely white. They do not go study in college and stay there in family business. It is also a ski resort though.

Depends on which one of the experiences we are talking about, and what I said which is certainly not that high end wages were automatically applicable to new illegal immigrants. The average wages listed is a combination of personal knowledge of wage ranges quickly checked with national averages. Also ~83% of Americans live in urban areas which is the trend of developed countries and where most wealth is concentrated.

Ski resorts are a interesting discussion in themselves because there are a lot of variables in play. Its a bit more complex than the scope of this reply. We can certainly talk about it if you want though.

That isn't the only wealthy area in America by far, and I never claimed it was a normal wage. Also I never said they were making $100k for that matter either, I mentioned hourly in the first post. And I literally said it was the higher end of the spectrum..I don't know how to make you read my posts correctly.

Here is the post again:

Keep in mind, these are typical ranges:

$11-25 per hour for restaurant jobs. Depends on geographic location and the specific job.

Unlicensed construction or gardening labor is $11-35 an hour. Really depends on how one calculates earnings. Licensed construction (including plumbing, electrical, roofing, etc) work is about $20-$60 an hour.

Fundamental aspect of economics is that specialization increases earning potential. It's not unheard of to make $80-300 an hour doing high earning restaurant work in an urban area. Similarly it's possible to make ~$70-90,000 a year doing unlicensed construction if the worker knows how to maximize their earning potential.

I even bolded the average wage part for you. Han1289, please let me know where I said the typical wage was higher than that.

stop this charade.

I'm confused. Are you talking about typical jobs and incomes for illegal immigrants who don't speak any English?

I'm also confused as to what you are asking, maybe this will clarify the issue. The post you replied to was a clarification as the other poster misinterpreted my initial post. This second post you are quoting is also discussing the higher wage earning examples, its not really about typical wage spectrums for Americans, legal immigrants, or illegal immigrants.

If you are talking about the first post about average wages, its possible. I can go into examples, historic or recent ones. But if you want to discuss illegal immigrant wage earnings, its going to be anecdotal by definition. The majority of workers, especially labor, for obvious reasons don't have a lot of incentive to report earnings to the government.

Think he's being ironic. Nobody can afford tipping anywhere close to their own hourly income, even if it's at a very upscale place.

The executive chef of a profitable upscale restaurant can likely make 50-80$ an hour. Those are talented chefs with education, years of experience and luck.
Apologies all, i should have clarified with a " /s "

Sanctions causes sky-high price for raw material , Oil and Gas for their manufacturing sector, and now they want to limit dependence on China? Once China retaliate by cutting down it access to its market and cheap components.... Europe will be like this
