I'm sure Mandarin songs are just as nice as English or whatever songs but again they are nowhere as popular or as common as English ones because of language.
It's also the same reason why most(I think) of us don't know any famous Zimbabwean or Hungarian singers even if they have voices of angels.
OTOH someone like Taylor Swift, Elvis or Beyonce is known worldwide. I'm 99.999% sure if Taylor Swift had only ever sung songs in Hindi or Bulgarian she would not be well known.

Everyone who plays Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail, two of the biggest games in the world, will listen to Chinese songs in the course of playing.

I don't think you can compare the market of 1.5 billion Chinese speakers with Zimbabwean or Hungarian (both of which ironically sing in English and maybe some French).

Listen for yourself, Zimbabwean music is just western music.

Indonesia invokes anti-porn laws against rebranded Twitter​

Indonesia has blocked access to the website X.com chosen by Elon Musk for his rebranded social media platform formerly known as Twitter. The Muslim-majority country’s Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Kominfo) said the domain has been associated with illicit content.

“X.com was previously used to host other sites that were not complying with our laws and were included in the Kominfo blocklist,” the ministry’s spokesman, Usman Kansong, told reporters on Tuesday. He did not specify why exactly the domain name was blacklisted.

However, according to Al Jazeera, the website was blocked in line with the government’s crackdown on “negative content,” such as pornography and gambling.

Kansong said the ministry was in contact with Musk’s company over the issue. “Earlier today, we spoke with representatives from Twitter and they will send a letter to us to say that X.com will be used by Twitter,” he explained.

Musk announced on Monday that Twitter would change its name and the iconic blue bird logo in favor of a white letter X in a black square. The billionaire, who acquired the platform last year, argued that the style would better suit Twitter’s new functions.

Twitter name is about as officially dead now. Replacing the word tweet or twitter in sentences with X is going to sound stupid and ridiculous. Hey did you X that yet?

Most people are forced to only like those who their media orders them to like. Its a sad state of existence.

Chinese are free to choose among the entire media market. Chinese stars organically rise up among Bilibili casters and are chosen by the people. A very different model than the top down command media that many outside China are used to.

@emblem21 brought up a good example, Hanser. She has 4M+ followers on bilibili and is a VA for Honkai Star Rail. Was she hand picked by the corporations or media? No.

Both Japanese singers have their own bilibili channels, that's how much emphasis they place on the Chinese market.

Yet another person with wholesome and wonderful taste. Yeah, she is the voice actor for Bronya in Honkai impact as well as Honkai star rail and she does phenomenal work. Sorry but all this talk over popular music still goes back to the soft power debate. Remember because Kris Wu's handlers forgot about his birthday, they changed the release date of his album to a later date to match his birthday but the dates in other markets like the US didn't change? It's going to be like when I once glanced into a nail saloon and saw a middle-aged immigrant looking Asian man doing a young white woman's nails. There was something wrong with that. These K-pop stars are going to be has-beens really quick. K-pop is a corporate controlled concoction. There is no independent music scene in South Korea. That's why you'll see suicides because they'll be replaced easily and quickly.

Every time I see these soft power debates come up, what's wrong with those advocating that China/Asians should seek soft power? They're always putting the cart before the horse. It means they don't see the music as most important. They're just trying use music as a vehicle to be liked. And you wonder why Asians aren't successful in music? Everything about it is superficial because being liked is the only point of music to them.

this is why I listen to independent Bilibili ups, because they're genuine people who interact with fans, and you know they're people just like you with some artistic talent.

Its ironically one of the freest markets in the world and it really is all about the art, not about begging for acceptance. you can tell which Asian artists are begging for acceptance and which ones are actually good at their art.

Sir, my only son who just turn 18 have the look of a K-pop artist had been developing his physical appearance by toning his body, so in way it had a positive influence. My concern early on with the popularity of K-pop among the youth that he may turn gay because of using make-up among the male artist....lol My fear is unfounded it turn out that traditional culture and environment play a leading role in molding todays youth.

In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with K-Pop. There are many catchy K-Pop songs and I used to be a big fan of K-Pop groups like Red Velvet. However, K-Pop is essentially a subset of American popular music and hip-hop. It doesn't sound unique at all to me. Despite its popularity, I doubt it'll influence the world in any meaningful way.

On the other hand, German and Italian classical music, Russian romantic music, French impressionist music, jazz, hip-hop, rock and roll, American popular music, etc. changed the world. I hope China can make a similar contribution to the world of music. I absolutely adore Chinese 古风 music and I hope that Chinese artists can combine it with other genres like classical music, popular music, etc.
