Who are they trying to fool? Fair election? Just ask Trump, and all those whose elections were derailed and those who were overthrown by CIA/NED. Freedom of expression? not only all the social media are censored by the government, all the mainstream media are also centrally managed by the government - resulting in the glaring lack of diversity in mainstream media reporting.

Excellent news, all the students in China's militarily linked universities should be 1st rate. This effectively prevents brain-drain to the US. As for Japan, how many Chinese want to study in Japan?

Hollywood can barely make quality films these days so I wouldn’t worry. The entire industry is also striking right now due to worker exploitation so it’s the perfect time for the Chinese film industry to rise.

I’ve always believed that censors in China need to relax on content that isn’t obvious political subversion; allow Chinese film makers to do as they will as long as they don’t **** on the Chinese government or white/West worship.
In my opinion, China should learn from soviet union film when in come to filmmaking (like how to make film from cinematography, etc). Establish state institution that studying and analyzing filmmaking and make experimental film (so that they don't restricted by commercialization) and the result of the experiment can be learned by private studio. China already has this kind of institution (to some degree) in animation but it's inactive in 2000-2010s and thank god it is active again.

I mean, china has really good relationship with Russia and china can contact mosfilm to distribute soviet film (which available for free on youtube but as far as i know not many of them available in china). China also can contact former soviet crew who make soviet film and to some degree learn from them.
I mean, chinese government has throwing money all around but it doesn't work because many chinese film trying so hard copying hollywood and chinese director and to some degree government only watch hollywood. Chinese film director (live action) also worshipping hollywood and don't trying to be original.

Another jewel on the industrial crown has been taken - China is now mass producing domestic 5.0T MRI machines. Radiologist interviewed in the article says the images produced are as good as any foreign machines and these domestic MRI machine can be produced cheaper.

Judging from historical patters I would think MRI makers across the globe will be driven out of business by this cabbagerisation in a matter of years.

I absolutely agree with you. I watched War and Peace (1966) recently and I was highly impressed.

Hollywood may not have the same powerful influence it had in the past but the truth is that it's still a very powerful tool. It doesn't have to mitigate Asian hate, but it can kowtow to China because China's market, that's the real power. If Hollywood were to turn against China it will be another avenue the west can use to fuel even more hate. I'm not talking about a pro-China movie here, I'm talking about China having the ability to make Hollywood bow down and not cast China as the forever bad guys. Another thing that people have to be careful about is falling prey to this "anti-woke" nonsense, that language belongs to racist republicans. Having a black mermaid in a fantasy film should be treated like the insignificant issue that it is, it's no reason to start some weird ideological war.

People need to be careful, most here don't remember the old Cold War and just because China has become an economic super power some young folks are starting to get a bit arrogant. China's rise to the top isn't guaranteed and what could stagnate China's power is hubris by people who think China's rise is automatic. Play the game but don't play it the way your enemy wants you to play. What the US wants is a clear antagonist so they can rally everyone around, don't give that to them. Keep their businesses reliant on Chinese markets and embed the Chinese economy into the global system so much that any confrontation will be very costly. Pulling away and thinking China has reached a stage it can do everything on its own will be a mistake borne from arrogance.

How would contacting old Soviet filmmakers, depending on how many are left, help when they themselves have hardly contributed much to modern Russia's own film industry? Plus its not like people around the world were lining up to watch Soviet movies the same way they did for The Godfather.

Regardless of who China learns from, be it Korea, Japan, or America, the most important thing is the country needs to up its production values and write better scripts. The former will take a while since its an issue with technology.

The chinese can learn cinematography from the soviet, plenty of american hollywood actually inspired by the soviet cinematography, for example lord of the ring battle scene got inspired by alexander nevsky. the reason i cited soviet film is because they are free and good in general, no need to pay or pirate them. The soviet film influenced cinema in general (from battleship potenkim to tarkovsky film, etc.)

that's why I said established institution to specifiy about experiment, when in come to lining up, private studio can learn from the experiment and make film to cater general audience. The soviet in general make good art film, film that the purpose of the film is art not to cater general audience.

Also technology while matter, it isn't everything alexander nevsky (1938) by sergei eisenstein still widely studied even though the costume is made from cardbox. That's why i said make instituion specify to learn about filmmaking and creating experiment, it's like research institution but for film and entertainment. The private studio can take care when in come to popularity.

As for lining up, western director widely study soviet film and praise them. Hell george lucas went as far as saying soviet artist has more creative freedom and akira kurosawa literally said the soviet film prevent him from suicide.

What i want to say is china should combine the strength of hollywood and soviet. Hollywood strength is in term of marketing, distribution and making popular culture while the soviet strength in term of cinematography and film technique
