Nope. It is real. This was reported all over the place in China. There are also discussions online on how unusual the timeline up to his death was and how it may be an American-led assasination. You do realize you could just go on Baidu and search for it right?

China is up to a lot of research and tests that can't be disclosed to the public. This is necessary for national safety. If someone among a group of likely 100 000s die due to something related to testing, only their immediate family needs to know the specifics.

You do realize this type of op can be done secretly right? And that Chinese MSS isn't always perfect? Given America's desperate attempt to blunt Chinese technological progress, I wouldn't be surprised if this was done by the US. The most successful intelligence operations are the ones that people doubt the most.
Oh, the MSS won't always be able to prevent some sort of American terror attack from taking place.

Not exactly. Nothing is guaranteed at all. In any type of war, the enemy always gets a vote. It took an internal leak by Snowden, not Chinese MSS, or Russian FSB, to reveal how extensive the US spy network actually was. The Hong Kong fiaso was building up right under the CPC's nose, yet nothing was done about it. Success is never guaranteed.

There's simply not enough info other than what the article CMP posted. The guy was in a taxi which got into a bad accident resulting in his death in the early morning hours. Sometimes sh!t happens. It does give shades of those Iranian nuclear scientists given the circumstances in geopolitics. Keep an eye out for more deaths of prominent people. If there is a string of deaths like those Iranian scientists then you have your answer. Remember,

To be fair there was nothing the MSS could do. Beijing failed to subvert HK politics to implement a national security law and education reform. Hong Kong was a funny place before the NSL. In Europe if you have a few thousand Euros in your account that you can't/don't explain its origin it can be confiscated as a crime money. If they were already investigating you for some reason it would become evidence against you. In HK, Nathan Law to went to HSBC with hundreds of thousands of USDs. Nothing was asked.
I know, and that goes to show how previous CPC leaderships failed to implement even the most basic form of national security measures and how they aren't perfect at all and could lose some rounds. The CPC was fortunate that Xi Jinping made the correct moves to eliminate such a threat. However such a threat should have never been one to begin with.
