So, uh, who else got this game.

I did yesterday, and to be honest, on its own its a good game, but it didn't live up to the hype at all, though honestly i'm not a big fan of the plot or premise, and it's hardly as 'realistic' as is claimed constantly in the reviews of said plot. But besides that i just felt that the game was hardly as fantastic and ground breaking as it had so often been praised for, the sort of gameplay that exists in the game had been done before and were much more enjoyable in games like DoW and C&C Generals, and with this in mind the game is rather shallow, as it just takes already established gameplay styles and doesn't add anything new other than fancy new graphics, in fact that's its main selling point, simplifying the RTS system to allow 'mainstream' gamers to into it.

Honestly the game isn't worth all the hype and hoopla, another disappointment of an already disappointing year of gaming, i hope the next year will be more fruitful for the gaming industry.

As you're more enthusiastic and knowledgable about military affairs than i am, i was wondering what you all thought of this game, personally i think it's just another form of public consumpsion and doesn't accurately portray the events of a Soviet-US war properly, particularly as the Soviets are characterized in a very 'klingon-esque' manner, typical of similar works of fiction.

As far as the story goes, it is hard to try and show Humanity "screwing up", when the fact we made it out of the Cold War without annihilating the Human race is one of the greatest achievements of Mankind in my opinion.

In terms of gameplay, one of the biggest innovations is the lack of a standard resource system, a truly "live" environment, where your actions affect EVERYTHING, from the ground, the skies, the buildings, and every destroyed building, new crater, and lighting all affect how each battle will play out, in subtle ways, ensuring that games are not completely repetitive for the tenth, hundred, or even thousandth time that one has played.

im hoping to get it today.
i never liked the RTSs that makes u gather resources and fight at the same time.

that's why i liked the total war series. u can manage them separately.

the only thing i dont like about this game is that it's too balanced. as in USSR and US have the EXACT same types of units (in fact they function almost exactly the same) the only difference between the 2 sides are the texture and model. (with the exception of heavy artillery) Company of Heroes did way better in this area.

I got this game yesterday, and I have played roughly 16 hours. It's good.

It's actually very realistic. Armor ratings. Equipments. Special abilities....

SPOILER ALERT

btw, the Chinese invade in the end.

If you want something realistic, play Armoured Task Force from shrapnel games or something, apart from the lack of realism, an other big disappointment is that you can't play as the Soviets in single player games, quoting a friend of mine "this sucks, the whole point is to kill Americans."

indeed, I would love to be able to play as the Soviets.

However I am disappointed that no single publisher has gone back to the tried and true tank combat system of Close Combat series by Atomic Games, theyres was realistic and enjoyable.
