According to this, Norinco 'agents' tried to sell Automatic Weapons to undisclosed 'street gangs'. These sales were apparently the largest bust of Illegal Automatic Weapons ever to grace these United States.

Among other things, the arms dealers also offered to give these 'street gangs' Anti-Aircraft Missile Launchers, Anti-Armor RPG's, Body Armor and even Tanks.

Why does this sound like a bad episode of Walker: Texas Ranger?

Also, I notice there were no aparent arrests as of 1996.

Considering that Norinco is being charged with selling arms to Iran, I figure this might be mentioned if things start to pan out on that front.

Plus, it is just ridiculous. Has anyone any information on what happened to this?

I remember this!

Key word: STING!

The FBI, not gangs, bought them undercover. They just speculated to who can buy them. That's the spin and the propaganda talking. I've never heard of gang weapons found that never down the line originally came from a gun store or it would've been big news. If I recall correctly, they just shipped AK-47s. Never heard of the RPGs and other stuff. I'm sure the Bloods or Crypts are looking to do a drive-by in a tank.

I remember when there was a crazy that went into a San Francisco office building and killed a whole bunch of people in a law firm (inspired Runaway Jury by John Grisham), NBC news did a story and said the guy used Chinese submachine guns. Outright lie! He used American Tech-9s made in Florida.
