Were Vietnamese massacred at Spratly Islands ?

On the occasion of celebrating the Chinese Navy 60th anniversary, a short clip that was taken by the Chinese navy in 1988 has been publicized by her state media. It shows the actions of the Chinese navy in combat as the so called "self-defense" and conceals the reality of a massacre :

64 innocent Vietnamese people were killed by 37mm anti-craft guns from Chinese warships in a few seconds.

The conflict in question was over the Johnson South Reef. From what I've been able to gather the area was highly contested and the Vietnamese soldiers attempted to erect a Vietnamese flag on the reef and were also the first to open fire.

If you're gonna argue a case, you'll need to present better evidence than a heavily edited youtube video. What was Vietnamese military transports doing in Chinese patrolled waters anyway?

From the said video that was posted, it was just some narrator who was narrating the whole incident, the video is hazy, far away, no one actually could see what is happening down there. Then there are some firing, but no one know who open fire first.

We can only hear the chinese sailor shouting, "Fighting! Fighting now!" Which mean there was no command given to the soldiers on the beach for fighting or shooting, which also give us some sort of an insight that it is the vietnamese who started the fight.

The chinese only response with whatever they have. Of course if this is a battle, the whichever side had the advantage of weaponries would win and of course they will use all they have to fight.

Finally, the dead sailors and stuffs like that are not innocent vietnamese, please do not twist the entire event, they are soldiers and officers, might be defending for what they hold dear, but they are not unarmed civilians.

I urge the moderator to close this thread. It serves no purpose.

As many member mention, heavily edited video. Mentioning Tibet and called Deng Xiaping dictator. It is just some China hate video, trying to spread some bias view.

I am surprised Moderator allow such thread continue(Maybe because you are an American?).

If Deng is a dictator, the next chairman of CCP after him will be his son.

Calling those Vietanmese personal landed on those reef unarmed and being shot at??

You think CCTV idiot to shown video of them massacre those enemy and let other accuse them of commiting such act? Those people lose the fight and start to twist the words. 2 word to describe, Bad loser.

Really? Being an American has nothing to do with it.

If anyone was offended by the video I apologize. I did not watch it before approving this thread. I only read the text of idiana comments. If I had I would have not allowed this thread. The video is very biased against China.

idiana, in the future if you post a thread like this again You will not be long in this forum.
