Submarine is credited to de vinci or some european guy, but non of them understand the fundermental nor the concept of watertight compartment.

it was not until western peoples seen the chinese design boat with watertight compartment dat they understand the concept using water to submerge the boat, without worrying dat it would sunk to the botton.

so what is that chinese guy name? dat introduce this method.
we should credit him as the god father of submarine design.

Give credit where credit is due. Without the guy that invented fire, none of what we have would exist. So should he be the founder of the submarine, paper, writing, and civilization itself?

what if, he wasn't a guy, but a woman, or no one invented fire. they learn to make fire from lighting bush fire. that material can be burn and make fire, when it reach credical heat.

Surely, the discovery of fire is an accident.

According to Wikipedia, the first true successful use and concept of a submarine was one invented by the British in 1620 with the aid of a Dutch inventor, Cornelius Jacobzoon Drebbel. It was powered by oars, though it might just have been a bell towed by a boat.

The first military submarine was an American invention known as the Turtle, used during the Revolutionary War. It was unsuccessful in sinking the HMS Eagle, the Flagship of the British Navy.

The first successful use of a submarine in combat was by the Confederate Navy in the American Civil War. Using a Spar-Torpedo, the CSS Hunley sunk the USS Housatonic, though she sank not too long after the Housatonic.

The first wide-spread use of Submarines in Warfare was by the Germans in WW1, where they were used to attack shipping lanes.

That's about most of what I know about Submarines. Other than that above, the Submarine can trace it's roots back to Ukranian Cossacks who plunged a River-Boat under-watter then flipped it, having the crew walk along the botom with air trapped in the water-tight boat.

I would say the Chinese has developed superior ship in the era, but they didn't build a submarine, they just built ships that wouldn't sink as easily... :D
