Here are the major US surface combatants I have recently built in 1/350 scale...and I am talking about fighting ships now:

And here's a similar view of PLAN major. modern surface combatants I have recently built:

And here's a side by side look at the US Burke Flight IIA and the PLAN Lanzhou:

All looking very well indeed.

Soon, I will put all of them in formation with thier respective SSN and Carrier...a US Carrier Strike Group and a PLAN Carrier strike group. But that is another thread.

I'm about ready to start building my UK and Japanese Groups...followed by the Russian and French groups. It's taken me a year to get to this point....hehehe, so at least two more years before those are all done, and then its a full US Amphibious Ready Group, and hopefully by then some new models will be out in 1/350 scale of the QE class and Ford Class carries and perhaps the Zumwalt too...and maybe the Type 052D as well (I am sure Trumpeter will put one of those out) so I can update the older groups.

When u put the two side by side the size of the bow sonar is quite apparent! The PLaN is truly lacking in sub surface warfare.

What's wrong with the pennant number of that Burke? Looks like a flipped over 5 or 2? Also, USN pennant numbers look really small compared to those PLAN ones.

Do an update/refresh on the image. somehow I had mirrored the image and not fixed the pennant number on the Burke.

As to the size, the PLAN numbers are very large when compared to the US numbers, particularly the older black PLAN pennant numbers. The newer white, shadowed numbers the PLAN is instituting are much smaller, similar to the US numbers.

Yes...that sonar is considered the best in the world for surface combatants.

Another clear difference is the beam of the Burkes compared to the Lanzhou. The Burkes are wide vessels for their displacement and this helps them in their operating characteristics in heavy sea states.
