Unprecedented flood disaster in Manila

Over 13" of rain in just six hours! 80% of Manila is now submerged, literally turning the city into a Venice. The cheap residential areas are the most critically hit. Its the worst flooding in the Philippines in living memory. I can't figure out how to express the sorrow of the thousands and thousands whose homes are damaged or destroyed, those who still have friends and relatives missing, those who are still stranded... Many areas, including the whole metro capital region, has been declared a national state of calamity...

This is very tragic. The Republic of the Philippines does not have the proper resources for a disaster of this proportion.

Donations to the Red Cross would be very helpful.

Naturally here in the US with our self centered media there is almost no coverage of this disaster.:(

Certainly is tragic, however would the event not get bigger exposure in Hawaii?
The Philipinoes have a fairly sizeable representation there.
THen we've also had a couple of Indoneasian earthquakes and one down by American Samoa, thats catching our attention with the call for aid.

You get superior news coverage, particularly on real time, if you follow the Blogosphere or use social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, & Youtube.

Traditional news media is becoming passe. That's why they're losing millions of subscriptions each year.
