Translation Thread

I am preparing to move from HSK 5 to HSK 6, and I thought that having a thread for crowd-sourced translations of Chinese materials would be helpful. I tried the same thing on CDF, but since CDF has a greater proportion of Chinese members to Western members, there was essentially no demand. Having the opportunity to make attempts at, and be corrected by Chinese speakers would be quite helpful for me, as well as a useful service to Western users who might want free translations of something they could not otherwise access.

Inst, SD rules indicate that Chinese language postings and links are not to be made without an English translation. Same goes for other non-English language posts and links.

So, we already require that translations accompany the posts.

It is best in any case for those translations to occur in the thread where they are posted.

So...if that is the type of thing you are looking for...it is already required and we would rather not have to go to a different thread for the translation.

If this thread is meant to be about something other than that, please explain it in more detail so we can decide if it is useful for SD. Otherwise, if the above explanation hits at the heart of this thread's desire and purpose...it will be closed later.

This is a translation request thread, i.e, if materials exist relevant to this forum and there is demand for translation, for instance, in the case of a non-Chinese speaker who needs some Chinese materials, especially magazine scans, which can't be moved easily into Google Translate, translated, this should be the purpose of the thread. For instance, if a non-Chinese speaker were to find what appeared to be a useful article as a scan, they would not be able to post it because they would not be able to conduct the required translation. Also, centralizing such translation requests into a single thread means that translators would not have to hunt through the forums for appropriate requests, and in many cases forum posters may not want to post materials because they do not want to produce a full translation.

Of course, this is your forum and this thread must abide by moderator rules.
