I belong to that generation which use to wach Topgun over and over again fast fowarding those "dull" parts...must confess that Tomcat is the best looking US aircraft...
But if looking that F-15 thing...would it be nice if someone would post a some sort of basic data on each of these new F-15 variants, like which engines and avionics they have...so that we would have something concrete posted to base our comparisons...
I love the music in Top Gun..I can hear it now!...Believe it or not I worked in a building, AIMD Paraloft, right next to the real Top Gun at NAS Miramar in San Diego from '86-'91 when I retired. A lot of the scencs from the movie were shot in Top Gun's hangar...Top Gun is now located at NAS Fallon NV...We use to call Top Gun .."Pop Gun".
In a dog fight..My money is on a Tomcat. USAF pilots ,in my experience, don't take the chances USN/USMC pilots do...No guts..No glory!
Plus USN squadrons have way cooler nicknames, Black Aces, Dam Busters, Pukin' Dogs. Tophatters, Swordsman, Jolly Rogers, Black Knights, Checkmates, Grim Reapers, Checkertails, Red Tails. There's plenty more..
Anyway Gollevainen says we need to compare the F-15 models well here's some links so compare away. the USAF links will tell you about the Strike Eagle and the original F-15.

Computer and Targeting Systems
The F-15K possesses advanced computer, display, protection, radar, and targeting systems:
Avionics suite: Honeywell advanced display core processor (ADCP)
Cockpit-display technologies: seven-color liquid-crystal displays, two upfront control panels (flat-panel), joint helmet-mounted cueing system (JHMCS), and wide-field-of-view heads-up display
On-board protection systems: Lockheed Martin ALR-56C(v)1 early warning receiver and Northrop Grumman ALQ-135M jammer
Radar: Raytheon AN/APG-63(v)1 radar:
Air-to-air and air-to-ground modes of APG-70 radar with additional sea-surface searching/tracking, ground-moving target tracking, and enhanced high-resolution ground mapping for long-distance target identification
Improved reliability and maintainability
Third-generation targeting and navigation systems: forward-looking infrared (FLIR) and infrared search and track (IRST)
Performance
The F-15 family has a combat record of 101 victories and zero losses, and the F-15E predecessor flew thousands of combat missions during Operation Desert Storm and in the Balkans.
