Just in case this will spark yet another argument (you can't be too careful these days;) ), I put those photos in the professional forum so that people can see them but will not be able to reply, apart from VIP members.

can't see the pics swimmer posted, think you might have to post in a different way now. anywayz, what's the point of having so many private jets/helos for Bush when he doesn't really go anywhere. and if he need to escape from somewhere, how is small jet or helo going to help, they can't go too far. can't fly back to the states in one of those.

It's an EH101 from Augusta Westland (Italian design). It's in service with many militaries now and is a good solid design. The competition was between it and Sikorsky's S-92 (American design)--future US presidents will be flying in Italian designed helicopters, so as you could imagine the competition and result was very controversial. Some of the advantages of the EH101 over the S-92 are 3 engines vs. 2 for higher saftey margin if one engine fails and a larger cabin. In order to win the deal, the EH101 was marketed by lockheed martin as the US101 and the helo's will be built with at least 70% US content and be assembled in the US. Some also say it was a way of thanking the Italians for support in Iraq, and I imagine politics had a bit of the say.

Security is the reason for hauling all that stuff around. So where ever the President of the United States goes all that extra equipment goes with him. The helo is for short trips. Kinda like his taxi. Exactly what is in the other aircraft is unknown. But we can well imangine. I know he carries his own limo. All that equipment is for contingency. If it was not there and something happened to the President the security pundants would be out in full force.

Presidents of the US have been traveling with all this equipment for many years. This is nothing new. I remember when Reagan was president he often visited San Diego and all that stuff was located at NAS North Island..Nothing new....

well, sikorsky himself was originally russian, and if most americans actually knew that, theyd be screaming: "buy the italian chopper!", you can imagine the contrversy...the president flying in a russians helicopter.

but after such time, most americans dont remember that there actually is no "american". sikorsky was just as american as george bush.

Sikorsky the man is long since dead. He built up his helicopter business in the US. Sikorsky today is a unit of United Technologies Company--an American company with American employees, its products built in America, and listed on the NYSE (UTX). Hence, the S-92 is purely an American design. The Russian immigrant Igor would surely be proud.:)

I guess this is all:eek:ff
