Hello Dear Fellow Bloggers,

I am from Bangladesh and an quite enthusiatic about the continued growth in defence cooperation between PRC abd PRB.

In 2007 our purchase of Chinese armaments topped in the world over with 16 F7/J7 BG and some 65 medium and heavy SP Guns.

All current inventory of T69 MBTs are currently being upgraded with 120mm smooth bore main gun, ERA, 1200hp engines and mant other upgrades under direct Chinese assistance. The upgraded MBT is named T69Mk-IIG.

China has already signed agreement to help BD develop factory to produce QW-2 SAM under liscence. The work is now underway.

Just yesterday the biggest small arms factory of Bangladesh Ordnance factories (BOF) was inaugurated which was built with Chinese assistance. The factory has a capability to produce 10000 T-81 Assault Rifles/ BD-08 Assault Rifles per year.

The upgradation of a Bangladesh Naval figate (BNS Osman)has been completed only two months back. The ship is now equipped with C-802 Anti ship Missiles.

With many other such completed and ongoing projects China has enmerged as our time tested ally.

Our nations have already inked a mutual umbrella defence pact in 2006. We are also expecting (according to signed MOUs) to see PRC help us developping Neuclear Power Plants soon.

Bangladesh Military development plans (Vision 2020) stipultes a quantum leap in modernization in next over one decade. I would request our friends and others to please contribute here on the future prospects and mutual interests in further developping defence relationhip between PRB and PRC.

China offers Bangladesh more military aid, nuclear tech - Summary

Dhaka - China assured Bangladesh Friday of enhanced military assistance to the South Asian country and promised to help set up a power plant fuelled by nuclear energy, officials said. The assurance of increased defence cooperation was announced after talks were held between visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi and Bangladeshi army chief General Moeen U Ahmed.

China is the biggest supplier of small firearms to Bangladesh, sources in the Ministry of Defence said.

Analysts said China was now eager to supply upgraded military hardware to Muslim moderate Bangladesh.

China also expressed willingness to assist one of its most trusted allies Bangladesh with the establishment of a nuclear plant generating electricity to tackle the severe shortage of energy.

On Thursday, China and Bangladesh agreed to step up bilateral economic and trade relations based on decades of close political ties.

The agreement followed formal talks between Yang and senior functionaries in the interim Bangladesh government, a foreign ministry spokesman said.

Issues related to recent developments in Tibet and the upcoming Beijing Olympics were also discussed at the official talks between Yang and Bangladesh's Foreign Affairs Adviser Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury.

At a press briefing after the talks, Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Touhid Hossain said Bangladesh endorsed the one-China policy of Beijing and considered the recent incidents in Tibet as an internal matter of China.

Yang arrived in Dhaka Thursday at the start of a two-day visit to Bangladesh highlighted by the signing of an exchange of notes between the two countries on building a permanent exhibition centre for Bangladeshi goods in the capital city.

The centre, which would be constructed with Chinese funds and technology, will be handed over to Bangladesh as a gift like the China built previous conference facilities in Dhaka, official sources said.

Sino-Bangladesh nuclear cooperation on sino-Pak lines
Dhaka, Apr 25: Sino-Bangladesh peaceful nuclear power cooperation can be built on the Sino-Pakistan model as Beijing wanted to get involved in the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, Foreign Advisor Iftekhar Ahmed said here today.

Mr Iftekhar, who saw off Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi at Zia international airport, said Beijing has shown keen interest in the development of Bangladesh. They want to get involved in larger projects such as Rooppur Nuclear power plant.

The Chinese Foreign Minister, who was on a two-day official visit to Bangladesh, left for Islamabad this morning.

Since 1965, Bangladesh has planned to build a nuclear reactor at Rooppur to deliver the country from constant shortcomings of electricity. The IAEA is willing to provide consultancy in the installation and operation of a nuclear reactor at the Rooppur plant.

Mr Iftekhar said Bangladesh and China were partners in the new Asian Age and the visit of Foreign Minister would further cement this relationship.

''Our friendship is rooted in history. But it is important to renew and reinvigorate the relationship from time to time, and this visit was an occasion to do just that,'' the Foreign Adviser added.

During the Chinese Minister's visit, a letter of exchange was signed to construct an Exhibition Centre in Bangladesh.

Mr Jiechi offered a 60 million yean free grant to Bangladesh for this year.

Beijing to help Dhaka build N-capability for power

Foreign Adviser Dr Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury said Friday Bangladesh-China peaceful nuclear power cooperation can be built on the China-Pakistan model as China wanted to get involved in Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, reports UNB.

"Our governments signed a letter of exchange to construct an exhibition centre in Bangladesh. Furthermore, we have been offered 60 million yuan as free grant for this year," he stated.

China has shown keen interest in a bigger role in the development of Bangladesh and wanted to get involved in larger projects like Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, the foreign adviser told the media at the Zia International Airport while seeing off his Chinese counterpart.

Dr Iftekhar Chowdhury said that Bangladesh and China were partners in the new Asian Age and the visit of Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi would further cement the relationship.

Replying to a query, he said: "We've told him (Jiechi) of our 'One-China policy'. We've said matters pertaining to Tibet are internal affairs of China… have agreed the forthcoming Olympics in Beijing will be an occasion of pride for all Asians and (it) must not be politicised."

He added: "We discussed regional and international politics as well. I've explained to him the warmth of our relations with India and Pakistan, and the growing cooperation with all SAARC countries. Very importantly, we've talked about going ahead with the idea of a tripartite understanding among Bangladesh, Myanmar and China regarding a road linkage, something that I had raised with him earlier at a bilateral meeting in Manila."

[/I]What´s happening in Bangladesh?

Bangladesh is possibly heading towards the path of becoming the third nuclear nation in South Asia within next couple of years. It is learnt from various sources that the topic came in discussion table during close-door meeting between Chinese foreign minister Yang Jiechi, who visited Bangladesh on four day tour and Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury, foreign advisor in Dhaka military backed regime.

On this Friday, the Bangladeshi foreign affairs adviser, Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury, said Bangladesh and China could build peaceful nuclear power cooperation on the China-Pakistan model as China wanted to get involved in Rooppur nuclear power plant.

Iftekhar said Bangladesh and China are partners in the new Asian Age and the visit of Chinese foreign minister would further cement this relationship.

´Our friendship is rooted in history, but like all friendship relationships between nations have also to be renewed and reinvigorated from time to time, and this visit was an occasion to do just that,´ the foreign adviser stated.

He added: ´We discussed regional and international politics as well. I´ve explained to him the warmth of our relations with India and Pakistan, and the growing cooperation with all SAARC countries. Very importantly, we´ve talked about going ahead with the idea of a tripartite understanding among Bangladesh, Myanmar and China regarding a road linkage, something that I had raised with him earlier at a bilateral meeting in Manila.´

He concluded: ´We both recognized that in the dawning of this New Asian Age we both have responsibilities. We must bring our peoples a much better quality of life as we are doing. We must provide each other mutual help. A new chapter in the history of the world has begun.´

Meanwhile, the Chinese foreign minister The Chinese foreign minister, Yang Jiechi said military to military cooperation is an important part of overall bilateral relation between Bangladesh and China. Jiechi, who met the army chief, General Moeen U Ahmed, in the morning, made the remark to journalists prior to his departure for Pakistan ending a 2-day official visit.

During the meeting, they discussed exchange of training programs of military personnel of the two countries. Jiechi conveyed greetings of the Chinese defense minister to General Moeen U Ahmed.

Now, let us make a complete review of the just concluded tour of the Chinese foreign minister to Bangladesh. There are a number of points, which many would take into serious consideration for many obvious reasons. Number one is of course, Dhaka-Beijing agreement in beginning nuclear cooperation. Although it was kept secret from the press, it is greatly rumored in Dhaka that the present military emergency government in Dhaka has already signed an Memorandum of Understanding with China for China´s cooperation in nuclear sector. Although the agreement shows the very innocent face of nuclear power station, but it is always understood that Bangladesh surely is now going towards becoming the third nuclear nation in South Asia. And of course, there is no crime for Bangladesh in having that as both India and Pakistan are already having the same power and now possibly non-nuclear nations will live like subordinates within the region. As a sovereign nation Bangladesh can always attain nuclear power. But, there is possibly some problems. First of all, China is one of those countries, which is providing instigations and assistance to almost all the anti-American nations in the world, either with nuclear technology or with other technologies. Take the example of North Korea, a country isolated from the world for years. China is doing everything possible in keeping the economy of North Korea alive and it is known to all that Chinese lands are being used by the North Koreans for business and many other purposes. Although China enjoys maximum benefit from its export trade to United States, this country is possibly one of those beneficiaries from USA, which does everything, which goes against Washington.

Now, understanding Dhaka quick slipping from pro-American stand or rather Bangladesh´s previous stand in favor of war on terror to anti-American stand or pro-Jihadist position, authorities in Beijing are now taking Dhaka as one of their most important play ground for next several years. Moreover, after the recent victory of Maoists in Nepal, which will make Nepal the safe ground for Communists and Al Qaida outfits, Beijing may use the Nepalese land to some how create a potential headache for New Delhi and of course with the same agenda in mind, China will now concentrate on Bangladesh too.

It may be re called that, China had been one of the strongest supporters of the military regime of Hussein Muhammed Ershad in Bangladesh. During those years, Chinese business companies were enjoying virtually monopoly businesses in the country. Now, Beijing is taking aggressive plans in helping Bangladesh in becoming a nuclear nation on the other hand, concentrating in establishing road linkage between Bangladesh, Nepal and Myanmar. A future ´Neo China´? Nepal is already under Communist rule. Myanmar and Bangladesh are under direct and indirect military regime. And Beijing possibly was waiting for such an excellent opportunity.

Global players, including United States and Britain need to through focus on China´s secret game in South Asia. One of the seven members of SAARC are already inside Chinese grip, as the players in Beijing were extremely successful in letting Maoists win the election. Now, their next turn is Bangladesh. Here, possibly China would love to see a dictatorial government or even direct martial law. Bangladeshi authorities are quite sure that they are not going to hold any election within 2008. Chinese foreign minister met Bangladeshi army chief and conveyed him greeting from the Chinese Defense Minister. Look here! A defense minister conveying greetings to the chief of army of another country? And such ´greetings´ are carried by none but by the foreign minister? Isn´t it ridiculous? Or does it show evidently that, Bangladeshi army chief General Moeen U Ahmed in reality is very much a part in the government with the status of below or above the Chief Advisor? When the army chief concluded his India tour and went back to Bangladesh, the foreign advisor Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury held a press conference to brief journalists on the outcome of the trip of the army chief. Is General Moeen foreign advisor´s boss? In fact he is. Although Bangladesh pretends to be under interim government, but, in reality there is hidden martial law in Dhaka.

Human rights violation is very normal. Authorities in Dhaka are behaving no better than any autocrats in the world. The only reason, Dhaka is still not exposing its military dictatorship faces to the world is to get some more breathing time, before the country goes into virtual isolation following economic and otherwise sanctions. Do the global players realize?

Bangladesh has been looking for exporters of nuclear technology for some years now. A year ago it also approached India to set up nuclear plants.

Bangladesh seeks India's help to set up nuclear plant

6 May 2007

NEW DELHI: Bangladesh has sought India's help for setting up a 600 MW nuclear power plant to meet its growing energy needs.

"We have approached India for help to set up a nuclear power plant," said Hamid Khan, a senior scientist in the Atomic Energy Centre run by the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC).

The Bangladesh government had earlier approached a European nation for supplying nuclear reactors but later chose India as it was "closer to home", he said.

"Talks are on at the government level," Khan said. The neighbouring country is facing a power shortfall of over 1,500 MW and hopes to meet the demand through alternative sources like atomic energy.

Bangladesh's reserves of gas and coal have been its primary source of energy, but officials say these will run out within a few decades if they are used at the current rate.

The BAEC hopes to generate at least 1,500 MW with nuclear plants it plans to build, Khan said.

Khan, who was here to attend a conference on "Accelerator and Low Level Radiation Safety", said Bangladesh was expecting to procure 600 MW light water reactors from India.

"We chose India as it is closer to Bangladesh, both culturally and geographically. We will have help at hand nearer than any European country," he said.

Bangladesh has a nuclear programme that mostly caters to the requirements of the medical sector.

No doubt Bangladesh will be a country where other nations strategic geo-policies and strategy will be played out in the future.

Was wondering, any news on whether China is helping Bangladesh build airports, ports, docks or shipyards?

Dear flyzies,

China and Bangladesh has signed MOU to develop a USD 2 bn project to develop a new Naval Port opposite of present Chittagong Naval base. Necessary land acqusition has already been completed. The proposed project includes an artificial deep Lagoon and harbour with a ficility to berth upto 40 major surface ships.

Current posiotion of the Naval base being adjacent to civilian port caused a number of collusions between merchant ships and naval ships.
