I would like to delve into the area of side arms. I have been a law enforcement officer now for more than 10 years. My favorite weapon would be the Glock .40 as my duty weapon. I also carry a S&W 9mm for a back up and personal protection weapon. Many of my fellow officers feel the Sig is the best in the world as many of the larger U.S feds agency use it. The model 1911 is making a huge come back in the world of fire arms.

What is the standard side arm for the PAP?

Also, the police forces have recently gotten a 9MM Revolver for their niche' police forces (Traffic Cops, for instance) where a firearm is not expected to be used, but should the event arise it would be nice to have and leaves these forces a little less 'naked'.

There are also the Type 64 and 67 Silenced Pistols. I am not sure if they are used any longer (the Type 64 seems to have been removed from service).

Well, the standart sidearm in the Canadian Army is the Browning Hgh-Power 1935 and the Sig Sauer P226 pistols. For the police, well, there's not standart issue, that mean that each police corps decide for it's own sidearm. Thus, I know that in Montreal, the SPVM (Service de Police de la Ville de Montreal, Montreal's Police Departement) use Walter P99 9mm pistol and in the city of Longueuil (just beside Montreal), the police over there use Heckler und Koch UPS .40 Tactical

The actuell sidearm in the german military is the Heckler and Koch P8. It's a H&K USP in cal. 9mm x 19 (Parabellum). Other differences are: transparant mag. different safty switch, and a barrel with another profil (I don't know the correct english term). What is meant is the way how the inside of the barrel made to make the bullet rotate ...
The standart police weapon, since shortly, is the H&K 2000 9x19 it's also a derivative of the USP compact.

Special police units carry different types depending on mission needs and personal preferences.

As far as I know, the USP was originally developed to meet USSOCOM needs in the mid 90s.

I only fired the P8 during my dutie time. Still I'm not what you may call an trained/experianced user, because I held it in my hands only few times.
I found aiming not too hard, although shots always hit a bit low due to pulling the barrel down by pulling the trigger ;) after a shot the gun went up raletivly high, surely due to my unexperiance
So far ...

Standard sidearm in Croatian armed forces are HS 2000(exported in US as the Springfield XD ) and older HS95 (similar to Zastava CZ99) in 9x19mm caliber. Also there are PHP, Zastava M57/M70, High-power, CZ75, Makarov PM/PMM hundguns in reserve...

During my conscript service I have mostly used HS95...

Police forces use variety of guns in 9x19mm caliber(PHP, HS95, CZ75, CZ85, Glock17, Argentinian High-Power, Taurus PT92 etc. but most of these should be replaced by HS2000)...

YES Springfeild XD roxxors hard arse! Just recently picked one up in .40 S&W, and I would take this pistol over any Glock or 1911 derivative. It comes in three sizes, 3-4 and 5 inch models and all are available in anything from 9mm to .357 mag to .45 ACP. Mine holds 12 rounds in each mag, 15 for 9mm and 10 for .45. About 100 bucks less than a Glock and half the price of any well known 1911 derivative.

I used mostly HS95 but at the end of my service I had opportunity to use HS2000 to. I didn't used it to much but I really liked its ergonomics, grip safety and its accuracy. I cant judge its quality since HS2000 were brand new but from my experience with HS95 quality shouldn't had to be problem.

I would really like to hear your impressions about your XD since I plan to buy one in the future(9mm model) .
