Poor J-50, it most likely flew before the J-36 and also had leaks online days to weeks earlier. Only for those leaks to be dismissed because everyone was looking for the rumoured tri-jet while no one expected a next-gen fighter from SAC. Such dismissal wasn't even illogical given the complete secrecy of the project relative to CAC's programme.

History won't remember that, technically, the J-50 was the first to break cover. J-36 was the second.

Once SAC give vague hints that they might export J-50 to a certain Chinese ally the amount of internet aura boost to the J-50 will be tremendous.

To be honest, although i see myself as a hardcore russian fanboy, reallistically i can't see them flying their RAD 6th gen much before 2030 even under the best circumstances, and be in service much before 2040s, so it will make sense for Russia to buy some CHADs, either J-50 or perhaps the J-36 given russian range requirements, as an interim solution in say the second half of the 2030s. Just like China bought Su-35 the previous decade.

As to other export prospects, well, IF offered with no strings attached, i.e. absolutely no regards whatsoever for US "sensibilities"which i'm sure sabotaged many potential chinese (not to mention russian) sales to date, then a J-50E could make an absolute killing in sales from the 2030s. There will be literally nothing comparable on the market, since even the americans, under the best circumstances, are unlikely to have anything like it ready by then. But lets just hope the J-31/35 fiasco (as i see it) won't be replicated in the J-50.

I wasn’t talking about Russia. @Deino know what I am talking about.

I assume you meant Pakistan, but they are smaller fish compared to what bigger fish the J-50 could catch so to say. Let's see them get the J-35 first before even considering the J-50.

The Russians won't do it. They are already working on their own 6th gens the first of which is supposed to be PAK DP the replacement for the MiG-31. I would say the main issue for lack of progress there is the lacking production base, especially for the next generation engines. As is the PAK FA will get the 5.5th generation technology upgrades on engines and avionics first.

The PAK DP project has seen repeated delays and, as far as we know, is still in the concept stage. Frankly, I'm skeptical that we'll see a domestic Russian 6th gen enter service before ca. 2050.
