I am in DC for SAS 2014 and there are a few interesting "stuff"

At the Sea-Air-Space 2014 Exposition, Norwegian company Kongsberg is presenting scale models of both types of Littoral Combat Ships (LCS) fitted with unique ASUW configurations. The conceptual Freedom class LCS is fitted with 12x NSMs and the conceptual Independence class LCS is fitted with 18x NSMs.

General Dynamics NASSCO showcases the Afloat Forward Staging Base at Sea-Air-Space 2014
pfk8G8M.jpg

At the Navy League’s 2014 Sea-Air-Space Exposition, General Dynamics NASSCO is showing a model of its Afloat Forward Staging Base (AFSB) ship. The ship is designed to facilitate a wide variety of future mission sets in support of special operations.
...
The ship retains the capability of ballasting down. Eventhough the ship is configured for air mine countermeasure missions with MH-53 helicotpers, NASSCO believes the US Navy is about to order a study on the ability of AFSB to handle the MV-22. It should not be a significant job to modify the existing design in order to handle the MV-22. AFSB will have an endurance of over 9,500 nautical miles at a speed of 15 knots.

Speaking to Navy Recognition during Sea-Air-Space, Tad ****enson (Raytheon's Program Manager Air and Missile Defense Radar) explained that the AMDR is over 30 times more powerful than the existing SPY-1 radar meaning it can put over 30 times more energy allowing to detect more targets, a lot further out. AMDR ranges about 2.5 times further compared to existing DDG 51 radar.

looks like MBDA is trying to snag the JAGMS contract with Brimstone. Which might not be a bad choice.
I just wish you had gotten some close up shots of the Boeing Sikorsky Defiant model.

Boeing Showcases Phantom Badger at Sea-Air-Space & announces certification for V-22 Transport
sBJS9Ce.jpg

After a series of successful tests, the U.S. Navy last month certified that the Boeing Phantom Badger combat support vehicle can be transported inside a V-22 Osprey tiltrotor aircraft. That is another step toward providing warfighters with more options to deploy the versatile vehicle. Phantom Badger is part of the Bell Boeing V-22 display at the Navy League’s Sea-Air-Space Exposition currently held in National Harbor, Md.

Speaking to Navy Recognition during Sea-Air-Space 2014, Mike Duthu (Director of LPD Program at Ingals Shipbuilding) explained the growth potential for a BMD configured LPD 17 ship is an impressive 5,000 tons. The BMD ship may be fitted with 288 Mk 41 or 144 Mk 57 vertical launch systems. Its powerful X-band radar may be fixed of rotating and consist in 4 antennas measuring 25 feet up to 35 feet in diameter.

My main problem with the LPD-17 derived BMD cruiser is that since the baseline hull can't do more that 20+ knots, there's no way on the good Lord's green earth it'll be able to keep up with a CVNG, which goes 30+ knots (good luck getting Congress to pay for a $4 billion+ warship, even in the best of financial times, if it can't protect a carrier in the age of AShBMs)*

*I've probably said that enough times that HII has hired a hit squad to greet me when I get off of work today.

Probably looking at having it pre-deployed to defend certain areas from ballistic missiles. Guam, Japan, you name it.

That may be the best (at least most flexible) BMD option for US bases in the Pacific, but I still can't see Congress spending $4 billion+ per base for that single mission.

Still waiting on Defiant reco.

hmmm given that the USN is going to have to disable four tubes per SSBN I wonder if they might not fit all of the Ohio's with this Universal Launch and recovery set.
