Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day is nearing (Veteran Day in the US), Let us pin poppies upon our chest and share a moment of silence for the fallen, who gave their all, so we can have today. To rid the world of Imperialism, Tyranny, and Fascism.
And to those civilians who have been killed mercilessly by the invaders, let us all remember that civilians are innocent, and pray that if war ever happens again, the genocides of WWII would not repeat.

Casualties of WWII:

we are going on a class field trip for French to the french embassy and the ambassdor is gonna tell us stories...
i'll try and head down to arlington this weekend and get some pics of the cemetary

we get 4 days off for remembrance day. so that means 4 days of craming for exams and working on projects. that's just fun.

now onto the real topic, I think remembrance day should be celebrated more with more promotion (not corporate promotion, but recognition). i'm in canada, so this might only apply to canada. but one problem i see if the benefits veterans receive here is drastically decreasing. we should all thank our veterans for what they did for us (yes even those in the axis powers, most were just fighting for their country). without the veterans, we might all be speaking german or japanese right now. But in canada, around remembrance day there are many articles about veterans that can't support themselves because the government or people just doesn't care enough to give them enough money to survive. i don't know if this is the case in the USA or europe, but this is a real problem. who would want to risk their life and fight for their country if they know that the government that they risk their live for won't even support them when they get old.

perhaps this is not as important of an issue in USA since the military plays a bigger rule in society, but since canada is so pacifist, often the military is forgotten. rommel probably knows what i'm talking about. what u think?

Yes, I know. It's sad, but true... I'll like change thning like that. Thoses mans and womans have faced fear, death, fallen comrades and destruction to save a nation. And what we gave to them after... Too often, in Canada, the military are disrespected...

Even though, I share 1 minute of silence to all those who have fallen for their country, maybe you have been forgotten by the people, but we (the military) sucessor to you, glorious defender of freedom and life, will FOREVER keep you in heart.

I hate spoil your devotional esteem, but this thread has a timebomb hidden in it, so remember, we don't allow political brashing and hatethreads...so let us honour everyone died in wars but cut out, in wich ones or for who they where fiting for...Ok?

I don't think we get a holiday off for Veteran's Day at our school.

thats one way of looking at it...but only to westerners. in russia, they might say its to honor those who died to counter western imperialism. neither view is right or wrong. all sodiers who died for their cause are honered.

same here, isn't it ironic that we get "presidents day" off and not veteran? :coffee:
