Recently we've seen some Y-8's modified for EW/ECM testbed. It has been speculated that at one time, the PLAAF wanted a side-by-side cockpit configured JH-7 for EW/ECM duties, similiar to the EF-111A Raven.
Can anyone speculate the current PLAAF/PLANAF's EW/ECM/ELINT aircraft inventory, their capabilities, and future? Something comparable to EF-111A, EA-6, or EA-18G?
From Sinodefense, I've only found references of replacing the aging HD-5 with newer Y-8 platform. But the Y-8, like Tu-164, are passenger/cargo aircraft conversions and not military jets.
