Manual AAA? not quite the most modern naval tacitcs...

What are those flare things? Are they some sort of anti aircraft/missle weapon or just a smokescreen deployer?

My source lists them as jamming shells. Not quite sure what jamming shells are though.

usually one migth thing they jam infrared seeking or electro-optically seeking guided munitions And what have i said about oneliners?

are those old anti-air gun still useful?? I mean these day air craft can fly higher then ever, so why are they not changing to a sets of better anti-air gun??

Those old manually operated AA guns are pretty much useless in modern war at sea… PLAN still uses them only on old obsolete ships or patrol boats… Since unfortunately those ships still make majority of fleet they are still operational… Modern PLAN ships use indigenous Type 730 or Russian AK 630 CIWS…
My guess is that they chose not to replace them because it would not be cost effective and most of ships that use them is joust too old for upgrades…

Besides modern navies don’t use guns for anti aircraft defenses but for missile defenses… Missiles have tendency to flay weary low and at high speeds so manually operated guns have just to slow response time to deal whit that kind of threat…

As for jamming shells they look just like smoke cover or some sort of IR jammers (but are more probably smoke shells)…

What bugs me is that fleet is sailing in trail formation, f… if they would not have SAMs and ASM on them and helicopters flying above fleet I would think that I’m looking at some ww2 destroyers in parade formation and not modern navy exercise…
