FT report claiming that US automaker Ford Motor held discussions with Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker Xiaomi about forming a joint venture to build EVs in the US has been denied by Xiaomi on Sunday.

In a statement sent to the Global Times, a Xiaomi spokesperson said: "Reports that Xiaomi is discussing a joint venture with Ford Motor Company are false. Xiaomi does not sell its products and services in the United States and is not negotiating to do so."

Ford is trying to steal technology from xiaomi.

January sales results are in

Geely overtook BYD to become first with 270,167 units

BYD fell massively mom and yoy to just 210,051 units, including 100k units overseas.

Chery fell a bit seasonally to 200,269 units

BYD is massively losing domestic market share.
Part of it is seasonal slowdown no doubt but I suspect a big reason is that they just can't shake off the "didi car" reputation in China.
Nobody wants to be seen driving a BYD even though the tech is great

BYD's vehicle exteriors, interiors, and product marketing campaigns have also drawn heavy criticism domestically. In China, vehicles priced above 200,000 yuan should deliver emotional value, yet BYD's disastrous marketing and design teams have left everyone utterly dumbfounded.

BYD engages other Chinese carmakers in chicken races to the bottom. Amazon style tactics to see who can cut corners most by engaging in absolutely brutal and unrealistic price cut wars. Yes some innovation does come out of such brutal competition but the loss is at least equal in magnitude because it kills jobs and results in the bankruptcy of otherwise innovative and capable companies who wouldn't and shouldn't have otherwise lost so much market share and access to capital. So screw BYD.

They can be great like they are as a technology company but they can do that without being greedy assholes.

if you have no idea what you are talking about, then stop writing crap like this.

Seriously, China has a very fierce auto market. Everyone is fighting tooth and nails.

BYD manufactures NEV only and it is still the undisputed leader in that sector, although Geely has been catching up. I would guess that Tesla's January sales in China was around 6-70,000 units.

BYD's next gen. megawatt charger can provide 400 km/250 miles in 5 minutes.

Breakthough in solid-state battery materials prolongs the life of silicone anode: when silicone anode absorbs lithium ions during charging, its volume violently expands by over three times. With repeated charge-discharge cycles, silicon acts like a balloon constantly inflating and deflating, eventually collapses and shortens the battery’s lifespan.
To address this critical challenge, the research team devised an innovative solution to enable silicon to “breathe freely” within a rigid solid-state environment.

Electric buses are gaining ground in Europe alongside passenger vehicles.

HAMBURG, Germany -- Electric buses made by China's BYD and Yutong are increasingly popular in Germany and neighboring countries, despite misgivings in Europe about ceding infrastructure control to Chinese companies. Transportation companies in Germany, Belgium and Austria are adding China-made electric buses to their fleets, with operators saying they are cheaper and better made.

Though European-made buses remain the norm, China-manufactured counterparts took 21% of the market in 2024, with BYD and Yutong accounting for most of the sales, consulting firm McKinsey reports. Brand awareness was also high, with half of the operators familiar with leading Chinese bus or coach names.

How do you explain BYD sales crumbling, when they are supposed to be dominating the domestic market with their bewildering number of models and exporting like crazy with their fleet of ships?

China's EV market moves incredibly fast. Many of BYD's models in the most popular segments came out a couple of years ago. What was considered amazing 2 or 3 years ago now look outdated in the face of newer models released by competitors with better styling, interiors, and tech.
