I been trying to this question for a long time, I'm sure your all familiar with the National Security Council (NSC). Is there an organization pattern for the NSC?

For example NSC-68 (April 14, 1950) and NSC-162/2 (Oct 1952) is there an organization pattern for the numbers that come after NSC? It seems random to me...

Regarding the numbering system, I think they just went up numerically based on chronological actions from the NSC; so for example its first ever action was called "NSC-1/1."

As to its actual organizational structure, I'm sure there is tons of research done on this large and complex group. Basic knowledge is that it is a special agency that acts as an "advisory council" to the Executive Branch. It is largely outside the control of Congressional control and supervision, therefore allowing it give "unbiased" information and advice to the President. The National Security Advisor is appointed by the President without need for Senate confirmation.
