There were some reports that China implemented a new OOB for the basic MRB, with 4 INF Batn (up from 3), 1 tak battn with 4 companies, and one arty reg ( supposedly 1x122, 1x152, 1x130MRL?) Does anyone on this forum know more details/has this been propagated across the board?

It seems the tank component is still understrength and the motor-riflemen are still truck mounted.

Does anyone know the average number of Heavy 21 div's average horsepower/head? It dawned on me that with wheeled armored this figure could be lower than truck and jeep light motorized units since the latter actually need a lot of weapon carriers.

I tend to think the best force structure for MRB is 2 tank, 2 mech (wheeled) and 2 light, with one of the light's trained for airmobile ops. This produces best force flexibility. Incidentally the German armored divisions in ww2 had 2 tank, one mech and 3 truck (really should be viewed as light today) which made do ok.

Leaving actualities aside, what is the best OOB for a MRB depends on what one wants do with a MRB. If the goal is to implement a force structure which could be used in one of 'Stans, over the China's southern borders or transported to Taiwan (or perhaps Philippines) a wheeled structure would probably be the best. This would make the MRB easiest to transport over long distances over roads which sometimes might not be the best in the world. Moreover, if units had to be transported via air or sea the lighter is better.

Let's speculate a following kind of structure:

Manouver: 3-5 wheeled ICV battalions.
Support:
-Recon: A recon battalion with lightly armoured recon vehicles to create a recon screen and to maintain a presence over a large area. A technical recon unit with UAV's, radars and SIGINT for additional target acquistion.
-Direct fire: One armour battalion, wheeled. Might be also used as a manouver element if situation demands.
-Indirect fire: One artillery battalion, Perhaps 18-24 wheeled SPH's. As much use as possible of PGM's and ICM's to reduce logistical burden.

A forceful intervention to NK or Russias maritime provinces would demand heavier forces. In this case MRB's might be used as follow-on forces.
