they'll come to you, if they think you got good stuffs.
I have dealt with many Japanese companies before, when they want to find over certain products and things, they absolutely relentless in terms of information gathering, now matter how trivial, or unrelated, they still want them all and beyond.. None can match them in terms of information collecting and gathering.

TOKYO, Sept. 25 (AP) - (Kyodo)—Chief Cabinet Secretary Takeo Kawamura said Thursday that Japan and China should consider cooperating on space development as he expressed hope for success in China's upcoming manned space mission, which will include an astronaut carrying out the country's first spacewalk.
"In our mutually beneficial strategic relationship with China...I think the time has come for us to consider cooperating in the area of space," said Kawamura, who contributed to enacting Japan's first law setting out the nation's basic policy on the use of space.

The law was enacted in May, scrapping a decades-old principle that enshrined the "nonmilitary" use of space and paving the way for the development of defense equipment such as full-scale spy satellites.

Kawamura said that he would like to have the space development strategy headquarters set up in the Cabinet in line with the basic space law to consider cooperation between Japan and China.

Most certainly describes also Chinese (PRC, HK and ROC) and Korean companies.

Nothing wrong with that. Capitalism is dog eat dog.

I don't see any problem with cooperating with the Japanese. The more allies they have in this area, the better chance they have at joining the ISS. After all, if Americans see every other country having cooperation with China, it would do the same.

of course Japan wants it because of its failures in recent yr. CHina shouldn't agree unless Japan bring something valuable to the table in exchange.

I agree that China can cooperate with Japan, but should set up some rules at first, as I believe the japanese would also, anyway, I think joining ISS is a waiste of time and resources, if you have the tech and fund, u should better build your own.

it's not a bad idea for japanese to join in the efforts
the best part is promote sino-japanese friendliness and cooperation
helps thaw the ice further
plus japanese cooperation means they have to exchange technology
cooperating to work and learn together is always a good idea

yeah but china has done all of the hardwork, and now japan wants in to claim credit for some of it when it joins. china and japan should cooperate more but not in this kind of form, they should cooperate more in trade and business. not military or space or any national treasures.

Wouldn't the US have a say on this? Afterall of lot of what Japan knows came from the US. So what can the Japanese really offer except for money? Who knows. This could be a ploy to get Japan on the inside and pass on to the US what they learn about the extent of the Chinese program. They're always complaining about transparency.

JAXA isn't exactly behind in the game, they've built modules for the ISS and their technology is top notch in certain areas for sure. It's probably not a good idea for Japan to expand into a manned program considering their debt levels but cooperation would be good to improve relations and understanding. Perhaps something along the lines of the CSA's (Canada) work with NASA, where it supplies some astronauts and modules (esp. robotics) to NASA's manned program. Probably too early to think about something along those lines right now but maybe something to work towards.
