First, NIIR developed the N010 Zhuk radar for the MiG-29M. The radar was first tested in 1986 on a MiG-29 9.16 prototype. ... ...The radar had an electronically scanned antenna with a 680 mm diameter. ... .... Two missiles could be launched against two separate targets at the same time, and two others shortly afterwards. The radar range is 80 km for front-hemisphere engagements and 40 km for rear-hemisphere engagements.

Are we saying the KLJ-7 is 22 years old technology? Does that not sound disappointing?

depends on how you look at it, most Russian planes right now are still a generation behind Zhuk. The new Mig-29Ks that the Indians have are using Zhuk-ME and this is supposed to be part of the major upgrade in the avionics from Mig-29

Are they sure they got this right? 75km is the figure quoted for the KLJ-1, which was shown in the air shows before for the J-8IIM.

"Mechanical phased array antenna?" The Zhuks and the KLJ series are not phased array.

Zhemchug radars were sold as part of evaluation for the J-10 project.

Whats the Radar Cross Section of Mig 29 and SU 30 MKI? They are the likely opponents of this radar. SU 30 cross section is certainly over 3 sqm.

mig-29 probably 5+, su-30 probably 10 to 25? hard to say, depends on the angle. All I know is that they are both humongous.

Also, I have some doubts about JDW. We know the radar specs for F-8IIM was published in the last few air shows, but I don't recall the figures for JF-17's radar showing up in any airshows.

The components are probably more up to date than what they used 22 years ago. Military hardware doesn't get upgraded at same speed as our desktop computers. There's an aversion to brand new technology until it's proven. When you fire a missile, you don't want a Pentium bug that'd turn the missile around.

If we look at other radars that were considered for the JF-17, the Grifo S-7 and Elta-2032 are both based on older, proven technology. Once installed, they're expected to function from years to decades before a major upgrade.

For non-stealth aircraft, I think radar sig reduction features and RAM coating will be fairly standard in the future. The Russians claim that the Mig-29M2 has "x10 reduction in frontal RCS" from extensive use of radar sig reduction technology. But we have no way to verify such claims.
