June 4 (Bloomberg) -- China tested a submarine-launched
rocket, which may have been a long-range missile, Japan's Sankei
newspaper reported, citing unidentified officials in the
Japanese Ministry of Defense.
The test, carried out in the Yellow Sea on May 29, probably
involved a J-L2 missile, which has a range of 8,000 kilometers
(3,500 miles) and can reach parts of the U.S., Sankei said.
The U.S. has expressed concern over China's military
buildup and what it says is a lack of openness about its defense
spending. China in March announced a record 19.4 percent
increase in its military budget this year.
