Fascinating.
It was also fascinating to see how they were in an absurd hurry to make the replica and, because they lacked the cheap and simple techniques of yesteryear, they used the simple and extremely expensive techniques of today, together it is true with simple and extremely cheap techniques of today.

I have watched the clip before and it always amaze me at the level of technological advancement of the German Nazis.

Imagine a stealth fighter/ bomber in WWII when radar system are at its infancy... that would easily have change the course of war if the Germans could pump out great enough numbers fast enough.

Luckily they couldn't...

There were two other problems: the quality of the jet engines and the lack of fuel for them.

The Germans in ww2 were never for want of engineering it was resources and budgeting resources that they failed at. When they built a tank for example they built them grand and superior but then they built a dozen of alternate designs all competing for the same funds and material. When they built the ho she was delayed because she was one of a dozen programs all competing for the same reason

I am pretty sure even after we have perfected warp drive, some people will still harp on the perceived resemblance between some nazi semi-fantasy unrealized projects from 5 centuries ago and our now new interstellar space ships, and say "how amazingly advanced those nazis were."

Well... at that time when the Nazis had done that, even if it were just on paper (which actually was not and the Horten actually did fly), at least they have thought and come up with prototype of the aircraft. Nobody in this forum actually say anything about whatever you and your nation had done that resembled what the Nazis had done before.

And couldn't we just marvel at the level of advancement some other people have rather than turning sour? And I don't actually care if you have perfected the warp drive and interstellar space ship or what, and if you really have, I would have said the same thing, "how amazingly advance the (fill in the blank for whatever nation you yield) were, they came up with this amazing technology when nobody else even dream possible."

I am not trying to be sour. I am pointing out that appearence of German technological precociousness is much more superficial than lovers of German tech care to admit. Closer examination of these supposed advancement shows the Germans didn't so much have more advanced concept than everyone else. Other people thought of it at around the same time too. The difference is Germans were driven by desparation to ignore the practical difficulties of implementing these concept using available technology, where as everyone else realized the insurmountable difficulties of implementing these concepts. The most critical things is Germans willingness to ignore the practical difficulties were in very few cases rewarded by actual, serviceable products.

So one might say the Germans weren't more advanced, they were simply more desparate in a way that was largely ultimately futile.

I will give you Chuck that the Worlds First Jet fighter could have come from other nations. The L133 for example was developed in 1939 and the Gloster Meteor was conceptualized in 1936. But Lockheed never built it and the Meteor was not ready until 1944. The Germans had the Jump with the ME262. But Chuck they had a lot of innovation to them it may not have been to today's sophistication but like leonardo da vinci's art work you can see the starting place in it. you can see the first production form it.

And when we compare the Me262 with the Meteor we see a world of difference. The Schwalbe was much faster. The advantage for the Meteor was that in case of engine failure Meteors often made wheels up landings on meadows in The Netherlands. You could then take the wings off and cart it home to the airbase. But one of my professors said you invariably damaged the push-pull actuation of the ailerons and had to largely disassemble the wings to repair the damage ...
