OK, when I originally made this joke, here, I never thought it would be so close to the truth:

Maybe because E-7's radar is operating L Band, they think it will be able to detect stealth aircraft further out. That would be my guess, E-3 is higher frequency S-band against which the LO measures on a fighter-size stealth aircraft should be more effective.

For those who still think China's military doesn't act assertive and we're letting them walk over us with FONOPS and other pussyfooting bullcrap, that's what you get after the incidents are filtered from American mouths. In truth, their pilots need psychological counselling after flying with our pilots LOL. I wonder what we did to them that they're too embarrassed to say and we have no desire to tell, cus I have trouble believing that anyone would need mental health services just because someone flew within 25 feet of them and told them in broken English to go home.
