Depends on whom you are asking the question. He has been trying to make a break from the vested and entrenched interests, within and without the party. This certainly makes himself hated by those who enjoy from the status quo.

Are you saying it depends on what city/province a person lives in? So someone from a liberal place like Shanghai would like Xi less than someone from a less liberal place?
I just generally want to know what the average person in China thinks about Xi. Do they like him or hate him?
Do all Americans eveywhere feel the same about Biden or Trump? China is no different.
Bruh, is it really that hard to give me an answer. You could've said something like "most people support Xi" or "some people support Xi" vice versa.

Since China doesn't conduct approval rating surveys on particular leaders, you would either have to believe Western studies on this subject, or believe in anecdotal evidence. Different people will give you different views.
You could also look at it another way. Xi Jinping conducted a highly successful anti-corruption campaign, and eliminated absolute poverty in China. Who do you think his supporters are, and who his detractors would be?
Well, your question make it sounded like all Chinese have the same opinion.
I'd call that common sense, but I've found "common sense" to be a severe misnomer. Sense is never common and what's common is never sense.
It is not the location. It's whether the person benefits from the status quo that Xi is trying to change.
To give you just a few examples, such person could be a lazy ass who works in the government/party/SOE, or a business owner whose practices are at odd with common prosperity, or a party cadre who has lost belief and is rent-seeking his power.
By the way, Shanghai might be more "business friendly" than most other Chinese cities, it is certainly not a "liberal" place.
Finally, a helpful response. I don't if it's just me, but people on SDF always answers more questions in a roundabout way sometimes and it really annoys. I wished more people would give me a direct answer.
Anyway, I appreciate the study. While it doesn't explicit tell the percentage of Xi's popularity, it does show that most people are supportive of his policies. I wished the study actually calculated the percentages though.
