In the U.S. they are still known as president even after they left office.

Apparently, it's up to the media/person on how to address the ex-president. It's more respectful to address an ex-president as President so and so. But if you wish to be nasty, you could specifically address the ex-president as the "Ex-President" like CNN just did when referring to Trump.![]()
