The Ukraine War should tell you that with satellites and drones, there's no such thing as "operational surprise" on the modern battlefield.

I disagree. China can easily achieve operational surprise in a Taiwan contingency. Mostly thanks to the fact that the entire eastern coast of the mainland being large urban centers. The troops are already in position.

Have you seen the reports in regards to Hamas' surprise attack on Isn'treal? How did Isn'treali intelligence get caught with their pants down? In all aspects, the PLA has better tech, better logistics, better coordination than an Iranian proxy.
