One lonely night decades ago in China, Xiao Ling, 10 years old, cries in the arms of her father. “Daddy, don’t leave Xiao Ling again. I miss you, Daddy”.
“Xiao Ling, you have grow up now. Don’t be naughty again. You must obey your Mum. Promise Daddy to take care Mum when I am not around”, the man said. Xiao Ling reply, still weeping “Daddy, I will, I promise you”.
Fully aware that he might not come back again, her daughter’s cute face, together with her innocent voice crushed deep inside the man’s heart, just like thousand knives crushed. Suddenly, the man’s heart, as hard as a big rock stone at war zones, melt down. His tears felt down, not as a military commander at one of China’s infantry units, but as a father.
In the next morning, her wife said “Promise me to come back safely, my dear”. The man said “Yes, I will try my best. But in case if I don’t, please take care Xiao Ling and you can find another husband. It’s my fault, I won’t blame you”. Her wife hugged the man, weeping “No, I will wait for you till the end of my life. It is my honour to marry a patriot like you. You fight for a better future for all of us in this country. I will struggle hard to raise Xiao Ling”.
Several years later, a bomb dropped from an enemy’s aircraft torn Xiao Ling’s father into pieces. The man regrets nothing, but only one, that he can’t serve his beloved Motherland anymore to combat foreign imperialism. When the news spread to his family, not any single language on this Earth can represent their sadness, only flowing tears…..

Today, as China emerge from a nation humiliated by a number of foreign nations to a hunger nation to the upcoming world’s superpower, many things has changed so fast. In many cases, these rapid changes are good, but in several cases, these changes has lead to a very wrong direction, particularly in the society’s moral degradation.
Professor Ma’s wife-swapping practice show how serious this threat to us as a whole nation. Egoism, arrogance, more freedom to do anything and even free-sex are getting more and more foothold in China’s modern society, a self-interest society, from a self-sacrifice society just decades ago. With our society’s moral degradation is so fast moving, what kind of China as a nation will be in the next 20 to 50 years ?
The hidden fact is : sometimes, these changes is very natural in the process. When human search for the only human basic rights for their children to live in peace, they don’t care about enough food to eat. When human search for enough food to eat, they don’t care about affordable house. When human search for affordable house, they don’t care about car ownerships. But after all human need and want has been achieved, what else they search to improve their life quality? Egoism, arrogance, more freedom to do anything and even free-sex could be one of the answers.
A self-sacrifice society decades ago are parts of the result of the harsh environment at that time. A self-interest society today are parts of the result of the individualistic environment at current.
Change the environment is the key solution. The government should set up a system that create multiple channels for our society to contribute their affordable part in a certain mission. These multiple channels (affordable, voluntary, no reward) will serve as an alternative way for our modern society seeking ways to improve their life quality.
Those who has money are encourage to contribute their money, those who has skills are encourage to contribute their skills, those who has energy are encourage to contribute their energy, those who has time are encourage to contribute their time. Compassion (not money, not power, not fame, not even our success) will become the most important things in this kind of environment.
First, launch a nationwide campaign to enable everyone to contribute their part for the nation. Start it from saving the electricity and water resources. Introduce various ways to save electricity and water resources, from the most simple ways to the most technical ways. People save the electricity and water not because they can’t afford to pay it, but because they want to contribute their part for the nation. To stimulate people to contribute more and more, every province will be measured monthly, in a nationwide competition.
Then, launch another nationwide campaign where people are told not to litter anywhere, clean their environment and differ their garbage, which one can be recycle. The local government will sold the recycle garbage, earn money and use the money to buy public electricity generating sport tools, such as jogging tracks. Make it available in public places. The tools measured how much electricity has been generated and how much money if it is converted into amount of money, and the accumulation. Each province will report the accumulation every month. People are also encourage to buy those things for their home usage. No one will get the payment from the electricity being produced, but only sense of pride.
The best performance provinces will reveal their success secrets, offer helps to the worst performing provinces including the fund needed. When the national target achieved, the whole nation will cheer for the success. No one lose, everyone win.
Every month across China, the local government organize certain social works in their area which everyone can contribute their part voluntarily (no enforcement). Students across China from kindergarten to university also do the same. In the current reformation process of nationwide education system, redefine the value of education institutions. The end of education is character building. Confusius teaching and its daily implementation should become the core of education.
Companies are encourage to do a lot more corporate social responsibilities. Under government supervision, private social organizations should also be encouraged. Advertisements that also promote good moral will be highly praised.
As one of the most important tools to guide public into a good direction, every media operating in China should have an obvious guidance (not the abstract ones). This obvious guidance will guide the media in their daily operation. The mission “inspiring life, improving life” is a standard guidance for all media which operates in China. A vulgar image don’t have any place in Chinese media, including women in swimsuits, nude artistic expression, etc. Website that organize “wife swapping practice” should be cracked down. Sex education must be encourage in a special forum, but more emphasis should be put on the dangerous of free-sex (providing a safe free-sex guidance will mislead the society). Kissing in public places should be banned. Underwear show such as in Wuhan should be banned and condemn by the media.
Those ultra rich society whom confused what else to increase their life quality, those medium rich society whom bored with their current situation (job pressure, never promoted, etc), those desperate society who failed in almost everything, everyone who desperately search ways to improve their life quality, will benefit from the compassion environment created by the system, solving a lot of social problems.
These multiple channels will also help desperate society, avoid them performing destructive way-out, such as drug-addiction, torturing themselves or their families, suicide, killing others or the recent string of deadly attacks on schoolchildren.
Because once again, it is compassion (not money, not power, not fame, not even our success) that will become the most important things in this kind of environment. In these social works, their contribution or even their existence will be much more honored, which may never exist in their current environment.
As our prime minister Mr. Wen Jiabao teach us that “any small problem multiplied by 1,3 billion people will end up being a very big problem, and a very big aggregate divided by 1,3 billion people will come to a very tiny figure”. The system exactly aim to move billions people to contribute their part for the society. A harmony society as outlined by our president, Mr. Hu Jintao.
Finally, let our modern society personally taste and experience the eternal rule that “when you give, at the same time you will also take something”. It could be friendships, more grateful for what they have and less complain for what they don't have, more compassion, more harmony in their family, which all will improve their own life quality.
If Xiao Ling’s father can talk to us, he will probably said “Millions of us sacrifice our flesh and bloods and even our family’s unity to give you a better environment in China today. The government should set up a system to guide our rapidly changing society into a good direction. Please respect our huge sacrifices. Give us pride, not shame”.
