Freedom of Religion in China in Mao's era

I am a fan of Captaincool7 of YouTube, just a little while ago I read one of his latest post on his channel expressing his take and understanding of how religion(s) exist in China during Mao’s reign and hereafter. He provided citation and references to support what he stated and what Mao actually expressed and written on the subject of religion in China.

As we all know, a lot of people in the west loves to play the repression of religion card to home into their people that the CPC is such an evil government that's unduly repressing the Chinese people. Nevertheless, Captaincool7 posts sort of shed light into this topic that's largely not discussed at length on this forum.

Religion was targeted during the Cultural Revolution as part of the Four Olds. A lot of artifacts and monuments were vandalized and destroyed during that period.

Aside from the CR, there was no persecution of religion, and there isn't any today.

Yeah there are unfortunate differences between what Mao once said and what his zealous red guards did.
