Saab has developed a Denmark-specific variant of the Gripen C/D, the Gripen DK in response to request by Royal Danish AF.
Currently the Royal Danish AF operates ugpraded F-16 A/B's to MLU specs. However most of their F-16's have been in service for over 2 decades and the Royal Danish AF is looking for a replacement. The JAS Gripen is offered as cost-effective solution to the much more expensive EF-2000 or JSF.
If Sweden successfully exports the Gripen to Denmark, it'd be the first western-european customer for Swedish fighter jet since they lost the EU Fighter competition to F-16 - The Saab Viggen/37 ended with no export customers.
