It was recently announced in the Buenos Aires Newspaper “la Nacion” that Venezuela is purchasing from China 10-12 Y-8 transport aircraft and an additional 18 K-8 training aircraft. The article when on to specify that Venezuela had made a partial payment of $US82 million for this negotiation.
It is interesting to note that China is beginning to make inroads to Latin America arms sales and presents a good alternative to American (strings attached arms sales) and European (expensive arms sales) weapon systems.
Chinese technology is catching up with western technology. So not only the cost of Chinese defense products is attractive, but being able to purchase the latest an greatest Chinese equipment is better that expensive 15-year old western equipment.
Any thoughts?
