Chinese aircraft export market

It was recently announced in the Buenos Aires Newspaper “la Nacion” that Venezuela is purchasing from China 10-12 Y-8 transport aircraft and an additional 18 K-8 training aircraft. The article when on to specify that Venezuela had made a partial payment of $US82 million for this negotiation.

It is interesting to note that China is beginning to make inroads to Latin America arms sales and presents a good alternative to American (strings attached arms sales) and European (expensive arms sales) weapon systems.
Chinese technology is catching up with western technology. So not only the cost of Chinese defense products is attractive, but being able to purchase the latest an greatest Chinese equipment is better that expensive 15-year old western equipment.

Any thoughts?

Western weapons are routinely used in war on innocent people and as a result this false sense of "advertisment" they get alot of military orders, especially from the middleast

in addition Western nations also use the old trick of "divide and rule" for example, bumping up the Iranian threat while selling advanced weapons to Arab countrys to counter this "threat" which probably doesnt even exist, UAE F16 E/F deal

in addition many Western nations get weapons deals based on politics, for example Iraq just orderd F16s Saudis signed a $15 billion Typhoon deal and South Korea and Singapore also took American fighters , politics plays big role in weapons deals (we all know about the kick backs- Al-Yamamah deal)

in all of these scenarios China does not play the game as West, so as a result the weapons dont end up selling which is probaby a good thing

There seems to be an increase in the overall sale of Chinese weaponry in Latin America. Nations a beginning to see that there is a forth option:
American
European
Russian
And now Chinese

Chinese representitives usually lack aggressive marketing and failure to disclose more spec in open source failed to swing more public opinion on positive of Chinese weaponary.

So far, the public opinion of Chinese weapon is still on the negative side,if China wants to get a bigger share of defence industries. It needs to project itself better. On a positive note, western and even Russia military equipment are getting more and more expensive which reaches a stance that buying from these 2 sides is no longer substainable. This make Chinese military product attactive to them especially in aircraft section due to its much lower prices while offering similiar capabilities.

In other words, China needs to put in more efforts to sell their products overseas. Another thing might be lack of mass overseas sale due to booming order from domestic demand. Many factories are busy filling order from PLA,PLAAF and PLAN which local industries presently do not see the need to aggressive push their product or overseas sales.
