No reason to think that current Y-20 or even Il-76 can't carry armored vehicles for airborne units.
At least from the looks it is a very modern cockpit, which is to be expected. The basic layout resembles the one on C919 except that it does not use side sticks:A few images from the interior ...
Soon the PLA will have a much larger Airborne unit (infantry only for now until the WS-20 engines comes along).
No reason to think that current Y-20 or even Il-76 can't carry armored vehicles for airborne units.
True, but there are so few of them available, when one compares it to the US Army's 82nd Airborne Division alone has more C-17 available to them.
Those images offer some clue of inner dimensions of cargo hold.
If average height of men shown (average height of chinese male) is 165 cm, then the floor width (not including the folded seats) would be 4,0 meters.
If average height is 175 cm, the the floor width would be 4,3 meters.
For comparison, Il-76 has cargo floor width of 3,4 meters, while c-17 has 5,5 meters.
if they cannot carry armored vehicles, then there would be no reason to let them join service. No reason to think that current Y-20 or even Il-76 can't carry armored vehicles for airborne units.
