CTFE´s test bed is an IL-76.

Is this photo recent? where was it taken?

That's a good question !

To admit I'm a bit surprised that not much more is known or discussed about this image ... esp. if it is a recent image and - like suggested - only all engine's doors are open, then at least one WS-20 should be fitted and as such noticeable as a wider engine.

This is assuming this is the Il-76 test bed in the first place...

And "recent" from a satellite photo may be months or even years ago given how regularly they refresh.

Is it possible to reach those claims without the theoretical performance of WS-20, but instead, using the old Russian engines?

I definitely hope WS-20 could meet all design specs and gets equipped on Y-20 as it enter service. But looking at track records, WS-10 never really entered service in large numbers. Whether if it's production/supply issue or performance issue, it's just not reliable to the PLAN. WS-15 has been rumoured and confirmed for many years, but still never appeared in public, even after many years of R&D. This makes me wonder if WS-20 could smoothly enter service in large numbers?

If WS-20 really can't make it, of course God forbid, can those old Russian engines help Y-20 achieve 220T max liftoff weight and 60T payload specs?

C919 project development to achieve the milestone goal node

Large sections of wing and fuselage assemblies docking, smooth delivery

Newspaper News February 25, AVIC West completed the C919 large passenger aircraft wing-body combination of the big butt, smooth delivery, suggesting that large wing and fuselage assemblies integrated validation project has been created by the body construction phase to pilot phase, marked a big development projects to achieve the milestone goal node.

Large wing and fuselage assemblies integrated validation project is to address the bus grant of aircraft test schedule risk and technology risk, on a number of key design and manufacturing technology to verify the key projects. In February 2012, major airframe manufacturers as the C919 large passenger aircraft, XAC has started preparation work and in strict accordance with the quality requirements for commercial aircraft in China, actively carry out engineering information technology reviews, network planning and development process and disseminated in a timely manner to make level II network plan, defined the technical preparation, production, preparation, components, Assembly Assembly process control nodes. Technical team developing new materials, new processes, new technologies, scientific research and broke the C919 under the wing panels PEEN forming technical difficulties, have complete control over large and complex parts of titanium alloy heat treatment deformation control technology, captured the large aluminum-lithium alloy outer covering and trussed processing technical difficulties, achieved the keel beam, no margin for super large components such as wall assemblies.

In the development of the full cooperation of the parties and under assault team worked hard, large wing and fuselage assemblies integrated validation project was steadily advanced. On June 26, 2013, the wing-body configuration experience card project central wing panels on schedule to open the riveting; September 22 central wing entered the final Assembly, side wing and wing box Assembly rivet on October 21 entering the final Assembly of the fuselage on November 25 in the fuselage, wing and wing box assembly line outside. Up to now, XAC has completed comprehensive validation of a wing-body combination item in the fuselage, fuselage, rear fuselage Assembly and docking, the outer wing, fuselage and wing box Assembly and docking, as well as the installation of landing gear, and other major Assembly task, and successful delivery.

Wing-body combination integrated validation project is the first C919 large aircraft project development core parts manufacturing and Assembly projects, the timely delivery of the project to pull the entire project development schedule, break-through technology barriers, speed up the relevant test to verify that the project started has played a positive role in promoting. Is this just a try-out piece for future production? Or is it actual sections of to be produced prototype?

Found the photo on GE. its in CTFE, yanliang, xian. The photo dates from 13 january 2014. its very recent.

The only question left is if those are new engines, taking into account that this probably is the engine testbed plane.

You have this question because of an artificial problem that doesn't exist in the first place. The fact is, WS-10 is being used in large numbers.
