Two new Y-9 transport aircraft?
A380 Trent 900 tested on A340
Nice one something I mentioned last year that we should expect to see this soon, its typical way to test new engines Rolls Royce does the same
You would avoid adverse weather in a way an airline plane can't. Also you will probably strengthen the wing to carry that big engine and you may carry a counter weight in the opposite wing, possibly just fuel but maybe a piece of lead. But if you led the big engine generate its full thrust at a great altitude that thrust will be less than the normal thrust of the smaller engines at low altitude.Just curious Asif wouldn't the weight from the new bigger heavier engine that's being tested put an imbalance on the wing?
It would, but I imagine it could be easily corrected by adjusting the fuel balance in wing tanks. Testbed aircraft don't need to have full fuel so they could just remove the same weight of fuel from the left wing tank to compensate for the weight added by the bigger engine. If that is not enough, some additional spoiler movement on the other wing should balance things out, it can be done by autopilot.Just curious Asif wouldn't the weight from the new bigger heavier engine that's being tested put an imbalance on the wing?
