1000km's? i dont beilieve that. Does that mean with recharging or without? AIP's whole purpose is to make a submarine be able to stay underwater for longer.

the Songs may be gettting new batteries, but not without AIP. AIP isnt going to be outdated for years.

Thanks for the translation...I read it a couple of times to understand it. Guys it sounds so unrealistic to me. Almost 100% BS. No real tech info. Maybe some kid had a wet dream or has been reading too much and came up with that BS....Trouble is someone will read it and believe it.

I think what the article meant is to use Lithium ion batteries instead of Lead-sulfuric acid batteries. Lithium ion batteries do have high energy density and its lightweight, but it's mighty expensive. Lithium ion battery technology is not new, it is commonly found in many cell phones and lap top computers.

The thing with Li-ion batteries is that theyre charged partciles need to keep moving, or else they will lose power. However, they are good for powering thinngs that require alot of power, such as my ipod, cellphone, and gameboy. Li-lon batteries have a an amazing power to size ratio. A large battery could easily power a submarine. But in the seas, theres no way to recharge these batteries.

One solution is to have both regular and li-on batteries. The regualr batteries can be charged by air, and in turn charge the li-lon.
