You don't want CCA when you're trying to stay the most hidden, like when breaking contact line stealthily alone and/or flanking to reveal the enemy's main 5th gen force from the side.

Imho J-XS will more commonly go together with CCA simply because its a frontline air superiority fighter, not a flanking "cavalry" or assassin.
Nah you can't replace strategic bomber.

Also in the American conception of PLRS, there is only a concern for ground strike/SEAD. But in the Chinese conception, based on the massive aerodynamic capabilities given to J-36 not present on B-21, the "strike" part of penetrating long range strike does not only mean ground targets, but also air targets. Such as AWACS, tankers, fleeing enemy fighters trying to rtb etc.

Yes! This is what I've been saying since my JH-XX post last year.

No part of an airplane is extra. If it is on there, it is there for a very good reason, a core capability even, as there's opportunity costs to everything.

1. If you don't need broadband stealth, you don't need to remove vertical stabilizers to make the plane easier to control.
2. If you don't need a large weapons bay, you could've made the airplane smaller.
3. If you don't need the TWR, you don't need 3 engines.
4. If you don't need fast climbing, you can put all intakes at the top to further reduce RCS.
5. If you don't need supersonic, you don't need a blended wing delta, you can go subsonic flying wing for range and even lower RCS.

You don't need high TWR, huge weapons bay, broadband stealth for a drone controller, even a forward drone controller. Line of sight datalinks can work for 400+ km. Unjammable laser line of sight datalinks even. A flying brick can do it.

You have the broadband stealth, supersonic speed, high maneuverability, large weapons bay, etc. for a reason.

在前不久举行的航空技术展会上面,中国相关单位低调展了新一代发动机概念图,从相关指标来看,它应该就是中国第6代战斗机动力系统,它的公开表明中国第6代战斗机及动力系统已经进入正轨。

笔者认为这种发动机是第6代战斗机发动机一个重要依据是这种发动机工作范围(飞行包线)“适用飞行速度3-4马赫,飞行高度3万米的战斗机”,这个工作范围已经远远超过了现有战斗机工作范围,从目前来看各国第五代(西方标准第四代)战斗机最大速度基本上在2马赫以下,最大飞行高度也不会超过2万米。

At the aviation technology exhibition held not long ago, relevant Chinese units showed a concept map of a new generation of engines. Judging from the relevant indicators, it should be China's sixth-generation fighter power system. Its disclosure shows that China's sixth-generation fighter and power system have entered the right track. The author believes that this engine is an important basis for the 6th generation fighter engine. The working range of this engine (flight envelope) is “suitable for fighters with a flight speed of Mach 3-4 and a flight altitude of 30,000 meters.” This working range has far exceeded the working range of existing fighters. From the current point of view, the maximum speed of the fifth-generation (Western standard fourth-generation) fighter in various countries is basically below Mach 2, and the maximum flight altitude will not exceed 20,000 meters.

How can a turbofan reach mach 3-4? That'd have to be some TBCC shenanigans. I dont think this is about soley VCE if that is the case.

This is a strike platform with a designation JH36 I believe. It's designed to replace the jH 7 and H6

For some reason this is what westerners WANT it to be. They are desperately wishing that this plane is an strike aircraft. For some reason, they are wishing that the shenyang prototype is an unmanned aircraft.

I think it's beacause that way they can downplay it as ''just an small bomber'' and for the shenyang one ''just another drone''... It would be a nightmare for them if both are manned air superiority aircraft.

Bad for them i guess. :)
