Chengdu next gen combat aircraft (?J-36) thread

I think the nozzles can probably move up and down judging by the flaps. Big question is if it can move side to side to control yaw
Maybe it could, but I don't see the utility. The plane has those air brakes/wing control surfaces near the tips that can already manage yaw turns.

I mean, the assumption that J-36 does not have high alpha manoeuvring requirements is entirely based on assumptions from last gen technology. The fact that it has 2 caret intake on the bottom when it could have 3 DSI intake on top, already shows it does infact have high alpha requirements.
Which is another reason why I also believe this is definitely not a bomber. Even someone with rudimentary understanding of aircraft dynamics would surmised that it'll make heck of a lot more sense to have all inlets on the top instead of a 2 + 1 odd lconfiguration had this been a LR bomber.

Wow, that does actually look quite like the J-36. I suppose this means that the supposed H-20 which was close to a reveal is really just the J-36?

I am stupid.

Years ago, everyone thought AVIC's "the next" was the H20, and we were all bothered for ages by the lack of news.

Now it looks like it's the J36, not the H20. Large stealth bombers shouldn't have such prominent canopy.

Not really. Here's what the B-2 and B-21 look like from the front when when the viewer is closer to the ground:

Besides, in addition to what @siegecrossbow has explained - The J-36's wings are much more swept back (~76 degrees for the forward section of the compound delta and ~61 degrees for the rear section) than the wings of the B-2 and B-21 (~40 degrees). That means you won't get such a wide frontal view with the J-36 as compared to the likes of the B-2 or B-21 (of which the H-20 is likely equivalent to the former).

(The illustration is likely not completely accurate/representative of the actual dimensions of both aircrafts in comparison.)

Nope. The H-20 is still the H-20.

I find it strange that AVIC officially teased that aircraft (which I'll still assume is the H-20) when the J-36 and J-50 were basically dropped on our heads as surprise Boxing Day/Mao's Birthday gifts. Isn't it quite unusual for China to officially tease (America-style) its future military assets?

In any case, it proves that teasing isn't a great strategy. The H-20 is nowhere to be seen and is developing into a stain on China's otherwise rapid military and aviation industry. The sudden J-36 and J-50 reveals (well, mostly J-36) generated shockwaves, almost all of them positive for China's military image.
