Alternate history topics or section?

I wonder what the management and members think about the desirability of alternate history topics or even a dedicated section? It's one of my favourite subjects to dwelve into and in fact in most cases i spend my free www time relaxing on such subjects (but not recently as lately there were exciting real world events that got my attention, see the CHADs and so on)

However at the moment i'm (or was) active on two forums in which i'm increasingly uncomfortable to participate due to the increased politization and in some cases downright patronizing attitude to put it mildly coming from certain western mods and members. This being a China defence orientated forum, perhaps the atmosphere here would be more suitable/mature (or at least, not being easily disrupted/hijacked by western politization) for level headed discussions on alternate history topics.

What i found about this genre is that actually it's an excellent way to find out all kinds of real world info on subjects of interest (mostly military themed in my case). In any case, most of alternate history topics i'm thinking of would be China related anyway since this is a China orientated forum, and most of them military in nature.

Thanks for your input.

While I don’t mind but IMO. Once a topic that is more sensitive is mentioned. There is a decent chance it will devolved into endless bickering that users and moderators would rather not exist in the first place.

Can you give an example? Are you talking fictional past or in a future tense? Americans always want people to act now to stop future actions that haven't happened.

Mostly an alternate past explored close or to present time, for example what if PRC's defence budget was twice as large after the Cold War ended, what additional systems they could have bought and from where, what are the implications etc. Or for instance an alternate Cold War timeline in which PRC's military development was not as hampered (at least this is the gist of some literature i've read, like A. Rupprecht's book for example) by the Great Leap Forward and especially the Cultural Revolution? Or a combination of both the above timelines. Something along these lines anyway.

So much of this forum's activities and posts are already spent on non-flagship military thread discussions.

This forum is bloated enough with a those kind of random threads as it is, I don't think we need to dilute it further.

I strongly am against such an idea, and this isn't spacebattles forum. This forum doesn't need engagement and active posting for the sake of it.

Basically all discussions/threads on this forum are centered around real things/events.
The ripple effect of introducing this discussion is immeasurable.

I think I've started a couple of threads on what-if scenarios, but I don't think they got much traction. Feel free to just start a thread, but I don't think we need a dedicated section for it.

Hopefully your threads will have better premise than just dropping these conditions out of nowhere.
