It's quite well know chinese fighter project which eventually led to J-10.
It dates back to the seventyes when PRC was desperetly pushing new fighter desing to order to get the PLAAF to the level of other major airpowers. As many other program, it was just too big leap to gain succes.
Anyway, its basicly a MiG-23 with viggen- style wing arragement. It's romoured that Egybtian Floggers where aquired for testing purpose and evaluation. The intended powerplant is bit misty, some sources says that the first indegenious chinese turbofan was intended to be the powerplant and deeper look to it's specs indicates that it might have well been so. Tough my sources states that a turbojet of some sort was intended. Anyway the program was eventually cancelled but lots of experience was gained to the J-10 project, exspecially from tailess delta/canard configuration.
...PS. a deeper search of existing threads, and you would have spotted already existing thread about J-9. Also those pics are posted several times in this forum.
