Here's an example of a very large scale model, the HMS Invincible in 1/22 scale.
The owner, Duncan Cameron of Scotland, originally purchased the "dumb" model from the Royal Navy who was using it as a recruitment tool prior to the actual HMS Invincible being built. Once the carriers were built they were going to do away with the model, but Duncan Cameron was offered a chance to obtain her. He did so and then completely refitted her and made her suitable for R/C and in-person sailing...and detailed the model very beautifully. Here are his words regarding the vessel:

The owner has since donated the Carrier, on a long term loan, to the Invergordon Naval Museum and Heritage Centre.

It can carry a second person in forward hangar lift hatch.
Speed 7 knts.
4 Sea Kings helicopters, 4 Sea Harriers aircraft, 1 mobile wrecking crane, Also has a R/C tug, 120 crew figures, rotating the radar arrays rotate, smoke comes from all 4 stacks. (Note: R/C HArriers have taken off and landed from this carrier.
She is moderately sea-worthy but doesn,t like wind above Force 2 or above Sea State 2.
