075 LHD thread

The smaller drydock at Hudong-Zhonghua measures ~340 meters long and ~48 meters wide.

The number is 50+, per the Office of Naval Intelligence of the United States Navy.

However, it MUST be noted that the phrase "physically accommodate" definitely should not be taken as being equivalent to the aforementioned drydocks being capable of building, servicing and repairing aircraft carriers (of which only a few of them do).

Says who?
This is why i was really looking at only Dalian, Jiangnan and Hudong re carrier capable drydocks, because they are the only ones that actually built large CV/LHD ships to date. At a minimum there are the two Dalian and Jiangnan capable of doing so at the moment, with Hudong having a drydock big enough as well. Of course, now Huangpu got into the LHD business, so that's another one able to build large combatants for PLAN.

Another of the articles i've read stated that 7 shipyards would theoretically have the capacity for CVs, and yet another that up to four CVNs could be built simultaneously (two at Dalian, one at Jiangnan, one at Hudong), though of course the latter two are just speculative statements. Still, it will be extremely interesting to get an overall image of the theoretical and practical CV/CVN/LHD/LHA capacity.

Just saw this on X (unfortunately I only saved the image) but allegedly the first one of the second batch of 075 LHDs has been seen.

Colour me sceptical, but where is that exact ship in this photograph (dated September 29th)?

While I hope not, but perhaps it may just be a misidentified civilian ship? Or do I need to look elsewhere?

Per the original poster on Bilibili, this one is alleged to be at Huangpu-Wenchong Shipyard, though I haven't manage to spot the ship on Copernicus so far (though this could also be due to poor weather and poor photograph quality).

But if the claim is accurate, then this would be the first 075 LHD built by Huangpu-Wenchong.

Huangpu does not have the facilities to build this sort of hull. Are you referring to CSIC aka COMEC, formerly GSI?

For now I'd treat this entire observation by OP with extreme caution.

Yes, that's what I'm mystified about. The OP mentioned the location of said ship under construction to be at Huangpu-Wenchong. Specifically, the

of the shipyard - Of which the China Shipbuilding website seems to point towards the location which Maxar photographed just late last month.

In addition, there are two more drydocks about 3 kilometers to the southeast on the same island. Still, I didn't manage to identify any ship in the latest available Copernicus imagery (10 October) that is similar to the screenshot imagery initially posted here in this thread.

Hence, until more photographs with verifiable details come to light, it'd be better to put this case as a "misidentified civilian ship" for the time being.
