Unfortunately the hanger and garage/dock were not open. We walked through the upper deck which contains fueling station for hanger, medical quarters, barber service room, some activity rooms and living quarter for officers.

Ship 985 Qilian Mountain has also completed the same modifications as Ship 986 Siming Mountain, adding the B turret position to test the laser weapon system. However, the hull of Ship 985 is clearly different from the early "steamed bun dome" of Ship 986; it is an angular, distinct cube. It's unknown whether they are testing a new model beyond the LY-1.

That does look to be pretty massive when compared to the LY-1 on the LPD-956 Simingshan. Either they only changed the weather shield dome on the LPD-956 while still retaining LY-1, or that this is an entirely new LY-X.

That’s just the weather cover. It’s designed to retract out of the way when the laser is needed. The laser and turret inside will be considerably smaller and will have full turning abilities as it would be rather absurd for it to not be able to turn.

They will get rolled out one by one. Can say with reasonable confidence. Key challenge is integrated electrical system but from what I’ve heard on the grapevines they have a novel method for cooling the device, so that’s one huge headache resolved.
