I know, but why pursue quad packing on the 054A's first instead of the 052D/055's UVLS? A quad packable SAM is a much better addition to the PLAN's larger combatants, unless the PLAN's idea is that UVLS be conserved for larger missiles and ESSM-like MR SAMs to mostly/only be fitted in H/AJK-16.

A quad-packable MR SAM for H/AJK-16 VLS does not preclude a quad-packable SAM for UVLS. Both in theory can exist (either as the same system or as different systems designed to maximize the footprint of each respective VLS type).

We've all known for a while that the UVLS has a quad packable MR SAM for it -- the idea of H/AJK-16 VLS accommodating a quad packable SAM otoh is new.
